A sun compass that was for sale on Ebay a while ago. I was out bid...
You can also use a watch as back up. Point the houre hand at the sun, and south will be 1/2 way between the houre hand and 12:00.
My Disco has an electronic compass in the mirror.
I also keep a old hand held gps in the glove box as back up to my large boat gps.

I think it went for about $130. I think it was made in the 1940's, for the US Army. It is no longer on my Ebay watch list, so I don't have all the details.

Thanks for the link. Now I know the name and model, and I can keep my eyes peeled for one - Abrams SC1 Sun Compass.

It is a radioactive sun compass with radium paint for glowing in the dark. Just like the old watch faces that were radioactive and glowed in the dark.
