Expeditionware can holders

I'm trying to finish my water storage solution, but am having a few problems. Space where I want to mount the can holder is tight. I do not have the clearance I need to swing back the strap in order to remove the can (probably could swing it 2-3 inches.)

Here's my question: How far do you have to be able to flip the strap back to be able to remove it from the base?

Instead of using the stock "metal" strap, ... you could substitute a web nylon soft ratchet type tie-down strap. Then you don't need any clearance.

Just a thought ... if you are mounting this in a tight squeeze spot.

what type of roof rack do you have ?

Don't have one at all. These would be mounted in the bed... also I would need to do a single holder on each side.

That might be a plan, but I would of course like to use the metal strap... if I can swing it (excuse the pun.)

River Strap from NRS light easy and STRONG! I have seen these straps take amazing loads while being punished by moving water.

You need to be able to open it more than 2" - 3"!

With a can in the holder you can't remove the strap at all. To get the can out, you have to open it to about a 45* or 50* angle. With no can in the holder, the strap will come right off.

That's what I was afraid of since I think they would give me the best flexibility. Guess I'll have to see if I can get AT holders to fit on their side in that spot.

I don't think I'm gonna buy $150 worth of holders to ditch the metal strap and run a nylon strap instead.

Thanks for the help everyone.
