Okay, so I've got the 7800 installed on the 80.

When I use a local repeater/node to connect to a node far far away once I'm linked with the node must I enter the node code every time I transmit? Or can I transmit as if I'm just using the local repeater?

Once you're linked, you just key up, wait a couple seconds, then talk just like any other repeater.

Also, after I'm linked to a distant node does the local repeater repeat my transmissions local to that repeater or only on the node I'm connected to?

Your local node AND the linked node will both repeat any transmissions that hit either repeater.

Hi guys,

I'm going to watch this thread closely - I have never used IRLP but I know there are a number of capable repeaters around here. Hopefully I can find a free one and join in with you guys soon.

Thanks for the clarification blake. :arabia:

Hey SOCALFJ, let me know if you're going to do the expo chat sunday evening. We could probably use the same repeater...

When we get back from our trip i'll see if i can hit the 9255 western reflector with this local node. http://www.billlovelace.com/irlp/

EDIT: Talked the owner of this node and he gave me his passcode to use the system. Super nice guy and really willing to help out someone so new. I will try and hit this later today when i get home possibly.

I have talked to someone Corona on my 2m handheld. Until I figure out the node thing I bet those of us in So cal could communicate on one of the local repeaters like Keller Peak, Santiago Peak or Verdugo. Verdugo is pretty quiet and has a pretty good reach 147.120 no PL.

Yeah that would be cool. You have to ask that Lovelace dude for permission first. Can 2 people log on to his node at the same time?

Kellymoe, wasnt me.. but i probably heard you. I usually just listen if im in the car. Yeah you can use Sierra peak, its not that busy.. just check for nets going on... Santiago is a private repeater now i think.. haven't hit verdugo yet.

There's a new thread for Saturday NET.

Once open, an IRLP node is just a link to another location, and anyone who can hear the local repeater or simplex frequency you are using can share the link.

The person who opens the link is the controlling operator, and is responsible for it's use and closing it. That's why you are supposed to say (in my case) "KE7IXX Controlling node #3735 in Williams, AZ." - 3735 being the node I want to open.
