Expo White?

I am sure this has been covered before, but for the life of me, I can't find the thread after multiple searches...so, I apologize in advance. I'm getting ready to finish outfitting my X, but I want to paint her before I add anything else to her exterior. Can someone point me to the thread or threads where "expo white" paint is referenced. I'd like to get the reference info on the paint so I can give the shop the numbers. One of the threads I recall said that the painters put a slight orange peel finish to the paint. Thanks to all of you in advance.

There are probably hundreds of thread that refer to Expo White. Probably the most fictitious subject ever mentioned on a BBS.

Indeed! that was good for a laugh. spunky, there's a fantastic amount of great information on this forum on the subject of overlanding, but it's spiked with kool aid. Takes some time to recognize. Expo white is an overland configured vehicle that is "white" of any shade. Pick your favorite white, tell the shop, and enjoy your freshly painted "expo white" rig.

I have an NAS 110. When it was released by LRNA in 93, they offered it any color of the buyers choices, as long as it was "expo white'

The correct texture is best accomplished by stirring the paint with a wiffle ball bat, while chanting " expo this, expo that..."

There is no such thing as "expedition white".

It comes from purchasing a vehicle with the cheapest paint possible (i.e. white of whatever flavour that manufacturer uses).

Expo White can only be used on Toyota Landcruisers.

Using it on anything else, will get you a lifetime ban from this forum.

All both funny and helpful :) I would still like to find the thread as I recall it, though. The guy put a great deal of effort into building a Ford Ranger extended cab. Closed the rear windows in with metal panels. I'll continue my search and hopefully get my X painted soon. Thanks for the help and humor!

His method of doing the final coat as a "mist" is quite interesting. I didn't read far enough to see how well it's held up, but I think I'd go for a satin clearcoat instead if that's the finish you want... The satin won't hold dirt as much as the textured finish, and it'll actually hold stickers, which I wouldn't think would work well with the texture, though it obviously has... Downside with either is that waxing or buffing the paint is pretty much out of the question. :(

I'll just stick with normal white, but it's interesting to see another idea that I hadn't thought of!
