Extendable Pole, Vehicle-Mounted, Camping Light

Has anybody ever seen or got any pics of a rear, extendable, pole-mounted light on any vehicles? Kinda like a construction work-light only 12v.
I saw one mounted on a Jeep once and would like to fabricate something simmilar. I would think something like that would exist on a utility truck or emergency vehicle of some sort?
I am trying to mount something like that to my rear swingaway and would like some ideas

There is a thread covering exactly this somewhere around here.....

I think it is where I got the idea to use a painter's extendable pole for my mobile base station 2M antenna.

Could you just weld a piece of pipe, closed at the bottom end, to your tire carrier upright? Use is like a flag pole holder. Then you could store the pole/light inside until you are in camp.

Thanks for the info and links. I looked into the Kaymar Light Pole (which was exactly what i was looking for) and due to it being shipped from AU, they are telling me it could possibly take a fdew months to arrive. They only ship when they have a full container going to the US.
I'll probably try and fab something in the mean time.
I'll post some pics when I come up with something.

Its a bit different only because its adjustable and you can point it back at the rear of the vehicle when the tire carrier is open.
Who made your rack BTW?

I don't have any pics but what I do is take my ARB Adventure light (12vdc long tube) and use a bit of duct tape to hold it on top of my Firestik CB antenna. The Firestik is thick and supports the wgt with ease.
I only do this if I need cooking light and there are bugs, that way I get the light and the bugs are way above me.

I'm in the process of building one of these. I've ordered the parts and am waiting so no pictures. It'll have 4 high powered LED's and be self contained. I was thinking about mounting it on a pole but have been pursueing other options. While nice on a pole it would also be nice to hang it from a tree and use indoors. I have a 12v portable power pack so it can be mobile.

A friend of mine suggested using a gorilla pod(flexible camera tripod thingy) and I like this idea. I could wrap it on my roof rack or tree and also be able to stand it up and point it. I have experience with these LED's but this is my first try at optics. I'll have 2 led's in a spot and 2 in a wide. Hope is to have it in a high and low mode and/or spot and flood or all on. Once I get my order I'll put something together, wait for dark and experiement. Currently my rock lights are the same leds with no optics and there is a lot of flood.

I think I'll be in this for around $80 if I don't go crazy and use PVC or sheet metal for a housing. As it is I think I have close to $65 just in leds, drivers and optics. If you google led worklight you'll find commerically avaible stuff. Problem is that it's expensive and larger than I want. It'll give you a good idea though.

:sombrero: Heh Heh, I kinda knew that, but my lights are independent from the reverse ckts

The rack is a new JK 4dr rack, from MBRP of Canada, (mbrpinc.com) and they know have a basket and front light driving bar as additions

My JEEP is used on their website

A couple of my rescue colleagues have floodlights that are just what you are looking for. However they run off 220v. Maybe in the States they'll be 110v?
They got regular floodlights that take 2x low wattage energy saver bulbs and run it off an inverter on a second battery. Works like a bomb. Mounted on a tall aluminium pole attached to the roof rack.

I don't have photos of the set up unfortunately but here's a shot of the type of light I'm referring to.

Here is what i have come up with:
TelescopicLight017.jpg

The pole is a Sureline painters pole frome Lowes or Home Depot. ( $21.00 ) When you see how this pole extends you'll see why I chose it.
The yellow cord is an air hose that I used as a sleeve the power through.
Just cut each end off and trim to the length you prefer. (Free)
On the end of the pole I used a universal end that threads on to the end of the painters pole. (Approx $8 bucks)
The light is a tractor flood light that I had laying around. (Free)
Welded to the tire carrier is a 1 1/2" X 8" threaded, galvenized, gas nipple which I drilled and tapped to accept the set-screws that secure the light pole. ( Approx $8 bucks) Its more secure in there than I expected. Everything is just tacked on for now . I'll post pics of it again after finish weld, paint, ect...
