Extended Diff Breather or Bellows

I was going to do the extended breather mod, but while researching the part numbers, I found this:

These sell for $21.

I also found these:

These sell for $6

Is there a benefit from using a bellow instead of extending the breather? Is the trail gear breather $15 better than Low Range Offroad's? Am I missing something?

Interesting. Looks easier to inspect periodically for cracks and leaks than a long hose too.

Really? You have that much of a problem with high-pressure rubber fuel line cracking in OR? I'd think that plastic accordion breather would be more prone to cracking at the seams in temp extreme's, simply blow from excess pressure that can't escape, or git bit by something when navigating a trail.

I've had my breathers extended with rubber fuel line and OEM breathers for about 5-6 years with no problem for about the same cost or less of those "little hideous diff-tumors." Geez - I get enough questions about the bloody snorkel - now add those little doo-hickey's to the axle?

I would not use the bellow, I installed the trail gear one not too long ago, and the first trip out I noticed oil leaking out of the axle seals and even the 3rd member connection to the axle, my axle was probably do for a rebuild but was not leaking until i installed the bellow, been using an extended breather ever since with no problems.

I really doubt that little thing can give you sufficient compensation for the temperature extremes you're likely to see. Go with breather tubes all the way.

This is what I was afraid of. It seemed too simple.

If I had that thing sitting atop my diff with all the stones, mud and whatnot flying about, I'd be looking for someone to make a diff bellows skid plate.

:Wow1: Oops! What have I said?
