F250 options

I have a 99 F250 and looking at potential budget minded options to prep it for a trip south of the border.

Camper shell / rack options. I would like a safari style rack the full length and then a shell of sorts. Possibly just a normal truck shell with plans to build it out inside for sleeping storage. We will be carrying 2 dogs, 2 humans, surf boards, 2 bikes. Looking at driving to costa rica and back. I am hoping to not spend more than $2000 on the build out - just to give you an idea. Need to save the money for the trip.

Thanks for any ideas, pictures of others rigs or thoughts.

Snugtop makes a very nice shell and offers it with a reinforced roof and factory installed attachment rails for an aftermarket rack. It mates to Thule parts, I think.

I had a Snugtop on a truck for eight years including about 10,000 miles of off-pavement use and was very happy with it.

Send a PM to "everymilesamemory." That's his screen name on this forum. He's done a number of configurations to meet his needs on a Super Duty including a topper.

I would try to find a cheap cabover shell if possible, its nice to be able to keep your gear locked up inside if possible and it would give you an area to hang out if the weather gets bad.

I just picked up an extra A.R.E DCU cap last night and its brand new. Not sure where you are BUT its for a F350, shortbed. Might be perfect for you, Could sell it cheap...

It has the side tool boxes with two doors on each side, barn doors on the back and is about 4" taller for added head room. The barn doors on back have security screens over the windows and all locks are the SS heavy duty ones. PM me and maybe we can work it out if it something you could use. I would love for this to make it onto an Expo rig....

I would look for a used canopy that you like, and then find a used lumber rack that fits over a canopy. A lumber rack would even give you storage over the cab, and you could weld to it to add things like highlift mounts to it to suit your needs. Both things can be found on CL or something like that for less than 1000 for both....just an Idea.....
