Feeler....... Built and baselined Mercedes G55 ready for adventures 4" lift fully dialed, 325/70 Toyo's, triple locked, winch front, swing rear

I'm finding that I have little time to enjoy the G55 as intended and built....

Quick history - this is my second G, after 16 Landcruisers of all flavors..... the first G was a 13' G63 - amazing motor, but limited in offroad capabilities due to all the intercoolers etc... Sadly, it was totalled out in a rear-end accident, but saved my wife's life in the process.

So we looked for the cleanest G55 we could find.... rust is an issue as most G enthusiasts know.... we looked over at least a dozen before landing on one in Texas that was super clean, ran great and was the color we wanted....

As it turns out - the motor ran really well, but the tranny had issues..... we took it over to Eurocharged in Austin to let Dave and Adam work their magic base-lining it.... they quickly advised the tranny needed a rebuild and suggested Southern Hotrod (https://southernhotrod.com/war-viking-max-722-6-mercedes-benz/) , as they could build it up to handle some extra power - and while in there they'd baseline the whole motor, rebuilt the Sc'er and replace almost all hoses, belts and accessories - new starter, alt, power steering pump, brake booster and master etc...

2 months later and a large check, they had her running like a top ( 94k -ish miles on her then) and put their ECU /TCU tunes on as well... I had a pile of parts from Jackwagon, Eurowise and rims/ tires waiting and the build began.... and dropped it off at Eurowise in Charlotte to have them install some items and fine-tune the lift....

Current setup:

  • Jackwagon progressive 4" springs - super smooth, yet ride and handle excellently
  • Koni Red adjustable shocks and Eurowise extenders
  • Eurowise front and Rear Panhard bars and new tie rod ends
  • Eurowise front Swaybar drop links and new bushings
  • Eurowise Extended brake and locker lines
  • Eurowise rear shock guards
  • Eurowise 4" front radius control arms and bushings
  • Eurowise front Dual Cardan Driveshaft
  • Eurowise Driveshaft drop bracket
  • Fox steering stabilizer and bracket
  • Eurowise catback sport exhaust ( stainless)
  • AFN front Bumper w/ Warn 12k Synthetic Winch
  • trio of Baja Design LP6's and Squad pro yellow fogs and Rigid DRL's in custom mount
  • AFN rear Bumper w/ swing-out arm for true full size spare ( will take up to 40")
  • Black Rhino custom built Atlas rims 1x9 et 0 w/ 325/70/19 Toyo AT3's - same size spare, unlike OEM
  • Gobi roof rack and Rear Ladder
  • Light controller mounted in front of Ash Tray - up to 8 light sets ( 40" Cali raised Light bar and mounts will go with - not installed)
Interior is super clean and kid, smoking and pet free ( we have an FJ80 and Van that do dog duty)
Currently at 122K - running perfectly, recently serviced with Stealership for AC recharge, fluids and fresh battery - and ready to go anywhere.... located in Norfolk, VA area......

happy to send specific pics or chat about it..... asking $ 72k - she will come with some spare parts, expo stuff - and hoping to finish off the Fridge slide mount on the waterjet this next week finally !

Erich

I'd love this thing in my garage!

Random question, you mention Toyo tires 2x but in the picture, those are Yokohama MT's (I have them on my Land Cruiser, great tire!). Are the pictures old or did you just type in Toyo instead of Yokohama?

Also, you mention custom built Black Rhino wheels -- How did you get them custom built? Very interested. Thanks.

Morning -

I ran the 003's for a bit - but at speed ( 90+) much preferred the stability of the Toyo's and the wider footprint.... I had a set of 003's on my 80 series and loved them.... but it was down about 300 hp to the G....

Yes - custom offsets can be done- I've run a batch of weird specs using spacers in the past ( volks on m 200 series etc) but for this build, I wanted to remove any chance of vibrations or something going wrong...

Jason at Get your wheels has been my go-to guy for most of my builds in the past 8-10 years....Jason@GetYourWheels.com they're built from blanks BR has by a shop outside Charlotte IIRC.

What are you looking to get something made for ?

The Toyo's were 315/70/18's BTW - and are for sale if interested.... set of five with under 3k of street driving only.

The spare tires are sold - and dropped the Price to 72k. New fox Steering stabilizer going on today and fresh alignment. She needs nothing - and I wouldn't hesitate to drive her to Alaska ( other then having a credit card with enough room for gas.... !!! )

My 80 series Landcruiser has a new home now - great guy from UT with some young kids who will use her the way she was built for..... he flew in last night and we met him at the airport - and his young son and him set off on what should be an awesome roadtrip ...

Now need to find the same for the G55..... PM me with any questions..... will be putting more pics up I get her fully cleaned up and fresh pics...

Finally also have the Replacement subwoofer ready to install this week..

E
