FG designtions

Oh holders of all knowledge...

What are the different FG designations mean? Like 637, 639, 140...

The more I try to think of other vehicles to base an expo camper on - the more I come back to the FG.

I'm trying to figure out the "right" one to try to find.

639 had the 3.9, but 637 had the 4.2.......and 649 had the 3.9electricT/IC.
I suppose 6 is the max GVM, as in tons.
I haven't really given it much thought until now!!

T/IC is turbo and intercooled. An intercooler will cool the incoming air charge and cooler, denser air makes more power than hot air.

Some models may have electric turbos meaning they are electronically controlled, i.e. variable vane or electric wastegate. The variable vane technology allows the turbo to act like a small turbo at low boost and low rpm and a larger turbo at higher rpm and higher boost levels.

DPF is diesel particulate filter. They are nasty evil things that rob power and kill fuel mileage... If they are successful at removing particulate matter (black diesel soot that is visible) their benefits are easily offset by decreased fuel economy. So you pollute less but use 30% more fuel, brilliant! Wish i had thought of that...

I'm looking for an older (read, cheaper) truck that I can put a lightweight composite camper box on.

The ultimate goal is a trip to Iceland :victory: and then some time out in the western desert.

I've been looking at going to Iceland on the way to Europe. I was thinking of shipping from Halifax to Iceland and ferry from Iceland to Scotland. How were you thinking of getting to Iceland?
