just thought id drag this one out of the archives to celebrate

haha stu as the water was getting deeper + deeper, that video popped into my head..
you kinda say to yourself, 'ohh yea we'll have a go, if it gets too deep we'll back out...'
but it doesnt really work in practice (specially fast flowing water) coz by the time its 'too deep' its also too late to stop and reverse or you'll likely make it worse..

Is that the stock air cleaner Andrew?

hi shannon, nah i changed it for a 4" donaldson + 4" piping. partly for more airflow (which im not sure it actually does provide, though hard to tell with the motorbike turbo mr-bishi fitted to these...) and partly coz i needed to move it to fit the 200L tank on the driver side.

Probly should add, didn't get off completely Scott free.. did have some water enter cab (not much thankfully), 1km later I did get a water separator light (water in the fuel) so had to stop and empty water out if the separator bowl. Dropped bung out of tank but it must've already sucked it all up. Haven't checked the diffs or other oils for water yet, fingers crossed...

On the plus side, not a drop in the tray, and one rear box had a very little bit in, the other bone dry :)

ok so im making some progress over here.. abliet a little slower than id like but oh well. got rims powdercoated + tyres fitted on them. running 2 valves per rim, one face in, other face out. got sick of the rear valves on the 16s bein so damn hard to service. + i may at some point run a STIS system with quick-release valves, so back-to-front valves on the back wont work with that.
anyhoo, the wheels fit (kinda) but rub all the standard mudguards (expected). so in the process of changing all that at the moment.

hi all, just back from a 2 week holiday (no unfortunetly not in the truck) and thought i should post a couple pics of the very nearly finished thing (well as far as the big wheels go anyhoo).
still need mudflaps on the front end, also want mudflaps in front of the rear (has mounts provisioned for it, just havent gotten round to it). still going to put the swaybar on the back end, also possibly 15mm blocks to give a little more clearance around the front.

hey Amesz00
I like those rims, what size are u running?? and who made em??
Thanks
Barrabindi

Hi mate,
Cheers, They are ex German army 1300 mog rims, 20x11 tubeless. Recentered to suit canter 6x8.75" stud pattern + offset by a fellow in Perth called Summerfield rim conversions. Has only done about 1000km on them so far but all seem good with the rims. Tyres are 335/80R20 XZLs.

thanx
bit big for my plans

No worries, they are a bit of an experiment..
I notice in he canter rims thread you asked about 16x9s? When I was organizing singles for my old 649 a few years ago I wanted to go 325 XMLs, which take 16x9 rim. Eastern wheel works in Melbourne gave me a quote to make them, think it was around $550 each? Roughly anyways. I ended up going 11.00R16 XLs (same dia @ 38.7" but 11.5 wide and take a 6.5" rim) as nobody in the world had surplus XMLs at the time + theres no way in hell I'm gonna pay $1400+ per tyre from Michelin Aust...

Gday Amesz00
I unexpectedly gone from 649 to 84.
Would be interested in some of further details on some of your mods.
First two I can think of are: suspension .... did you go with the parabolics? did u get 80mm? any packers??
(Im sticking with 35"s on 16x8. but need some height)
: air filter location ..... I read you installed a donanldson, which model? , any pics
(I often have to ford 600mm+ river)

Thanx Andrew

Not sure how I missed the end of this thread. Truck looks great, love the colour and the tyres.

Can you explain the platform area in the back and how the box is configured? All supplies/storage with room on the back for a small bike? (i.e. no living space or sleeping space inside the box)

cheers

Hi dzltoy,
Cheers mate, I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. The box is just empty space, so room for camping gear etc, which suits how we travel at the moment. You could sleep in it if you had to, but its only 2.4 x 2.1, so not a huge amount of sq room by the time there's a fridge, toolbox, and assorted camping crap in there.
The rear tray came about because we had a 550kg mini hiab sitting around at the time, so I decided to use it for spare wheels, maybe a motorbike or whatever..
Andrew.
