Gday Amesz00
I unexpectedly gone from 649 to 84.
Would be interested in some of further details on some of your mods.
First two I can think of are: suspension .... did you go with the parabolics? did u get 80mm? any packers??
(Im sticking with 35"s on 16x8. but need some height)
: air filter location ..... I read you installed a donanldson, which model? , any pics
(I often have to ford 600mm+ river)

Thanx Andrew

Hi mate,
Sorry I must have missed this post.
Yea I went with parabolics on this truck. I am quite happy with them on the whole. Did not get 80mm of lift from them, probly 50-55. Still have to fit 20mm blocks to clear my tyres at flex. The rear I think is softer than the front at the moment, although truck still has no bullbar which is a large factor. I feel it needs a swaybar on the back. Seems to flex nicely.
I'm not sure on the model Donaldson, had it for some time sitting there. I think its an outdated model. Has 4" in + out, so 4" piping then a reducer to the 3.5" inlet where it goes around the mudguard to the turbo.
I did (accidently, pics are on a previos page) ford a river that was 1500 deep. No engine problems.
Andrew.

Have you progressed with any further truck mods???
Im interested to see what bullbar you might be looking at??

Well I think this thread is old enough to fit the description of dinosaur..
Unfortunately nothing has really happened with the truck in the last couple years, a few life circumstances kinda got in the way of truck mods etc..
However things have been looking up this year particularly, a few things have happened with more on the way shortly.
A few months ago I fabbed up a bed inside the back. It is small for me and the mrs, I think the mattress is a single but it works for us. Just Ali tube welded then nutserted and bolted to the walls at waist rail height. 12mm ply on top and a caravan mattress on top.

Have finally finished designing my bullbar and winch mount, will be fabbing that in the next couple weeks when the water cutter at work can fit it in.
Have also done boost and EGT gauges, with the pyro probe in the manifold where it should be.

Just last week I took it into United Fuel Injection to have a unichip fitted, ended up remapping the ecu instead. UFI was really good to deal with, I was originally looking at some interstate options, but ended up deciding on a Perth based operation just for logistical ease. Unfortunately the truck wouldn't fit on their dyno, so had to road tune it. So the only numbers I have are a timed test I did before and after.
5th gear, flat road, 60-80 acceleration (dash, so probly 68-95) pre tune 18-19s, post tune 13-14s. Fuel and boost comes on much quicker, throttle actually feels crisp and responsive. I figure it's gone up to probably 600nm. Bloke doing it reckoned that's probably as good as it'll get on the stock mini turbo setup, but that it's got heaps left if I felt like doing the turbo.
Anyways tl:dr it goes good now.

Next big outlay is front diff lock, and spotties etc for the front bar.

I'll try put up some pics soon, on me phone atm and attachments don't wanna play ball...

Finally made a good start on the winch mount and bullbar. Still got some pipe work and light mounts etc to go.
Btw does anyone else have trouble with leaking tyre beads after going offroad, mainly in thick mud? Getting to be a bit of a pain, considering my options to try and stop it happening.
Don't know why the pics are all sideways, sorry bout that.

Does your FG84 have airbags Andrew?
If so, how do you plan on getting airbag compliance for that winch bar?

Nah. Even so, 1) airbags were/are optional on canters, 2) airbags are not compulsory on trucks, 3) in vehicles where airbags are optional, it's not compulsory to have the bags operational (read that somewhere, can't remember where now). And 4), airbag canters don't have any 'crush can' section in the chassis to set off the bags. Bars are simply bolted to the front, similar to 80s landcruisers.

Very interesting. I must admit to not knowing most of that.
Makes me wonder why I was told that I had to have an airbag compliant winch bar on my truck, not a custom fabricated one.

Air bag sensors have not been located in or near the bumper in YEARS, at least not on cars and trucks in the states. Why people think that a bumper has anything to do with an airbag is weird IMO. Air bags are triggered by an accelerometer or "g-force" sensor, i.e. you are traveling at 50 MPH and then you are not :D

I would presume that a stout bumper may inhibit an OEM designed crumple zone from working as planned, but the sensor, which is typically located under the dash, near the center of the vehicle, is what will tell the air bag to deploy. That sensor does not care whether you have an aftermarket bumper or not, I can assure you of that.

Sorry you guys live in such a nanny state, the US is not far behind you....

I noticed the same thing with my NPS, there is no crush design in the front chassis at all, just lots of steel bolted together, so I could not understand why you needed a compliant front bar to mount a winch on either.
As mentioned, it is triggered by a decelerometer, nothing to do with the front bar.
