Fixed! Happy to report by the end of step one she was fixed. Lesson: always top the gas tank off on a car when you first get it, that way you know if the fuel level gauge is lying to you :D

Wow!
One other known issue about LR3's just so you aren't surprised one day. Rear door module will fail at some time. Mine is on the fritz right now.
Cannot get into the rear hatch at all. I will be watching as it is corrected and purchase a spare module to keep in my repair box (and not in the rear of the truck!)
Dog hard is complicating the situation!

I scoured the internet and LRR last night for 7+ hours reading everything I could possibly dig up on the LR3. I have 5 replacement relays coming, a spare rear hatch hitch, serpentine belt, etc. Today I'm going to get my old windows box fired up and isolated from the network then install the LR Service/Maintenance software.

Awesome! Glad I could chime in and help. Now you just have to decide if you want to drive around with no fuel gauge or do the fix. For me I had the old style tank that should have been recalled but either was not or was but later got switched back for some reason. With being unable to access the second pump I had to replace the tank. With a new style tank and components it was roughly $2000. I found a used tank for $700.

I'll see if it's really broken over the next few days, I've seen this happen before with cars that were trucked. They disconnect the battery first, then siphon all the gas out and the fuel level sensor gets stuck. Once refilled, they usually work fine. After filling it to the brim it showed a proper level on the gauge, I'll see how it goes and decide from there.

I've seen this happen on newer cars too that have been transported.

Glad that your problem was resolved quickly.

Mine was the alternator going out on the 3rd day of ownership (69K miles). Been perfect ever since (103K miles).

Mine was two Canbus wires near the rear drivers side wheel arch the first week of ownership. Felt like it was Christmas on the dash. Been good ever since (tempting fate maybe).

Essayons!!
As far as the Gas guage not showing the correct level. I had this happen to mine and it is an 06 as well. They ended up dropping the tank and replacing both the fuel sensors in it I beleive. I could fill it up and while driving down the road watch it go all the way down and then up. Watching this post it the symptoms almost mirrored a dead alternator that we had on an lr3 and lr4 ( two seperate incidents) after a day of offroading. They put the alternator on the bottom of the engine, so it gets wet often. I have a listed it as a spare on my to get list as well.

Most people don't know this, but the e-brake can fail on an LR3 fairly easily. I crawl under the back of the truck and spray the fool out of the e-brake coil with WD-40 before going on trips or off road.
If it does fail, the truck will not move. The fix: Next to the passenger seat on the center console is a change tray (the long one shaped like a cigar). Pop that open. Make sure you carry a tool that allows you to reach and pull something with pressure. I use a Snap On tool that looks like an awl with a hook on the end.
There is an aircraft cable down in that void with a red tape around the end. If you hook that and give a hard tug, you'll hear and feel the e-brake let go. Then don't set your e-brake until you get the thing fixed! Thought you might find this useful in the future!

This has not been on my radar of capabilities... I used to be one of a few that had something similar for BMW E38s... how does one obtain this?
