First Day of LR3 Ownership - Perfect Vehicle - Right Until It's Not

Glad it was something simple. Always gotta check fuel and spark!

I will read up some of these other common issues.

A buddy had his rear latch go and he has the dog guard in place. He had a tough time getting back there to fix it!

Ouch, it is hard enough getting the carpet liner off the back when closed...

Thankfully the part is cheap and easy to replace. Just do it every 40k

Man the timing on his thread couldn't be any worse (or better). Found an 05 LR3 HSE with low miles and was thinking about pulling the trigger but the rover talk about buying up spare parts makes me shudder a bit. I guess it shouldn't but it makes me wanna look at a yoda.

Dude, it's a 9 year old car and I'm talking about buying spare $4 fuses and relays for a spare parts bin alongside maintenance items. If I paid up front to replace the maintenance items as recommended by LR it wouldn't be an issue, but I'm a believer of "If it ain't broke, don't fix it."

I had the exact same thing happen . . . . it was running great and just died. The fuel gauge read full and I had no fuel light on but it felt exactly like I ran out of gas. sure enough I had.

I had this happen one time with an airplane. Went from flying with the engine doing fine to gliding with an erie windy silence. It was the left wing tank sending unit.

fullofdays:

The LR3/LR4 is the best Land Rover I've ever owned. The big body MIII Range Rover second. Have I loved every other land rover that I've owned? Yes (in a love/hate kind of way).
The 110 survived a stupid human error event that most trucks would have not survived. It was hot in the summer and cold in the winter, and so loud inside you could barely carry own a conversation. Was it capable and cool? Heck yeah it was. The D90 was the same. Both however (even with V8's were somewhat sluggish — and my 110 had a 4.6 in it). The Classic Range Rovers and DI's were all great trucks. The DI 5speed was by far the "funnest" truck I've owned. Handled like a british sports car, but would go anywhere. But it did not like to tow. (well it did, but I liked to go faster while towing than it wanted to comply).
The DII was a cool truck, but that is about all I can say about it.

The LR3 is that Sunday go to church meets can do anything off road truck. The kids love the heated rear seats. I like the power and speed ... and gas mileage.

If you are looking for a drive by wire, virtually bomb proof truck ... get a 300 Tdi. But outside of a zombie apocalypse truck, the LR3/4 is the most capable, practical and comfortable truck I've owned.

Hope that helps. - Besides, it'll pull that Conqueror like it isn't there!

Most people don't know this, but the e-brake can fail on an LR3 fairly easily. I crawl under the back of the truck and spray the fool out of the e-brake coil with WD-40 before going on trips or off road.

Can you post a picture of what exactly you are oiling?

I will when it clears up here. But, if your spare is under your truck, it is a coil of aircraft cable with an electric motor beside it. The coil is recessed up above your spare. Since my spare is mounted on the rear Kaymar, it is easy access for me. I keep the coil of cable sprayed with WD-40.
