First Oil Change on '06 4runner

After doing my break-in regime in the first two days of ownership this week, logging a quick 500-miles with few cold-starts, then driving another 500-mi. round trip for Christmas (returning 250-mi. home tomorrow) I will be ready for my first 'break-in' oil change when I return home.

I looked under the 4runner before we left, it looks like I need to remove a skid plate to get to the oil filter & drain plug, is there anything that is not obvious or 'secrets' I need to know?

Not as urgent in my mind but after a few more miles and when I have time I plan to dump the differential and T-case oils too, changing to synthetic.

Thanks In Advance,

On the '03 V8 I had, I dropped the skid to do oil changes... no big deal, except IIRC, I had to be on ramps so it would swing down far enough to remove.
:Mechanic:

I found the skid plate bolts to be cheap and easy to round off, so you may want to pick a couple up before you need them.

Other than that, just like any other truck.

I miss that truck...:(

Ensure you follow the proper torque specs when re-installing the skid bolts... Dont let your buddy Mongo overtighten them :smilies27

And use some threadlock on them for peace of mind

How'd ya know I'm heavy-handed? Torque 'em till they strip, and back off an eighth...LOL!

I have had the 'Mongo' problem in the past myself... What are the torque specs for the skid plate bolts and the drain plug?

For now I will try to use good 'feel' of 'one hand tight' :)

7 Quarts?

I did the deed, first oil change, 950-miles :)

I put it on ramps because it is such a 'low-rider' stock. Maybe because of the height/ramps 7-qts came out not the 6.5-quarts that it is supposed to take with oil/filter change. Anyone else ever experience this?

We will be putting on another 1200-miles on the odometer in the next two days as we drive to S. Cal and back.
