What should I have him check that normal drivers usually don't have checked on their SUV?

would help to know what vehicle it is (some have trouble spots that others dont), but heres a general run down:

all suspension and steering components! these wear extra hard on offroad vehicles.

stuff like wheel bearings, ujoints, transmission fluid (for an auto), clutch condition, brakes (esp the drums adjusted if you have them)

id have all fluids replaced (diffs, tcase, trans, coolant, power steering, brake fluid, oil)

other than that, follow any recommended service interval stuff, if youre due for a timing belt, do it.

PCV valve, replace it! its like 6 bucks and will save you alot of headache cleaning out dirty intake runners!

Just for a check up. I haven't had it into a mechanic since I bought it 2 years ago. I change out the oil and rotate the tires myself.

I am taking it to a guy in Riverside. He has looked at it before. I thought my brake pads were worn and he said they were good to go. Didn't charge me a dime for looking the vehicle over. I trust him. It's hard to find a mechanic you can trust.

4.7... might wanna check your plugs as well and see if your coil packs are ballooning. If you haven't thrown a code then your probably ok but they are easy and quick things to check.

Don't know how many miles you have on the vehicle but a tranny fluid swap/flush may be in order about now with it being an 05.

Change the diff fluids as well. Better safe than sorry. Inspect the gears for any extra wear, gunky build up or water.

The Mechanic checked everything. When I came back he asked if I ever serviced the transmission because it looks "pristine".

I couldn't believe what he said. I was convinced he would find something wrong with all the trails I have hit this year (3 day trips and Saturday mornings).

Anyway, everything fine. It is great finding a mechanic you can trust. I have a few friends who are taken for a ride when they go to their mechanic.

I am thinking since I bought it used 2 years ago the previous owner must have had everything serviced.
