FJ-60 / 62 Weight

I looked at doing this with my fj55. I still think it would be cool. I opted for the V8 for all the reasons that have been mentioned and for the price I could get more power. If I already had the motor like your friend I would use it. If it ends up being slow he can always supercharge it. A friend of my brother did just that in a 40 and loves it. He can also run lower gears since the 3.4L runs so well at 3100rpms. Also, didn't Scott Brady's taco weigh in at a wopping 6600lbs? I think there is plenty of power to be had. He needs to remember that the V6 is much lighter than the I6. I lost a good 300lbs going to a V8 in mine cruiser. I think he should do it.

GM V8s come in at about 500 lbs, 300 lighter than the 2F it is replacing, for what its worth. EDIT: Cruisers have nearly 1-ton capable strength particularly with the after market options today. This is why V8s have been swapped into cruisers for eons, if it helps...

If I recall correctly, Kurt estimated the dressed 2F at 850 lbs. My research so far shows a dressed small block V8 to weigh 575-650lbs. depending on build specs. Any idea what a 3.4L weighs?
What I have yet to look into (for my own conversion) is the weight of the stock 60 trans and what a 700R4 weighs. If this were a 62 there may not be a lot of difference in trans weights.

Something to keep in mind is that straight sixes, by nature, are not limited to low revs. They are limited to low revs because of their vintage and the prevailing design mindset of that time. The reason that they make incredible low end torque is because they are under-square, much more stroke dimension than bore dimension. That basic geometry is also part of why they live forever.

I've never heard that saying. Could you please tell F1 so that they will finally get away from those nasty, high pitched screamers?

The quote is actually from Enzo Ferrari :) That quote is not all correct but is a good one :)

My guess is on the 5ZV-FE is it is under 450lbs easily... I believe it may be aluminum heads too (mixed blessing) if I remember correctly.

I took my 60 to a scale before we had it converted to the diesel at TLC. The weight, with about 10 gallons in the tank, and 100 pounds in the cargo area (my new wheels) was 4580.

I'll let you know at the end of the month what it is with the new engine and accessories.

Mark is going to abandon the Toyota motor and go with a Chevy V8. As mentioned a few times - he simply must acknowledge the cost savings and the added power. He LOVES Yota bits and this is killing as he is a certified USA car basher (I have to mostly agree)

He thinks he can pull off the V8 swap for little money since it has been done so many times and the process is well documented and he thinks there are even kits ready to go for this project.

Oh to have the time and funds for all these projects...

I pretty much loathe American too, hardly own a set of standard wrenches. That said, and also sacrelige on my outlook on vehicles as well, I'd consider a EFI V8 in a cruiser, would be a hell of a setup when nice and dialed. Smooth, power, and decent mileage, one of the best options out there... I have been working on a GM diesel all week. Retardedly complicated nightmare... You can only reach 6 of the injectors with a wrench. That said, low and behold it never needs bleeding so it actually is somewhat intelligently engineereed...

The V8 is good move in my opinion. I to loathe american cars but bang for the buck I think the GM v8 is the way to go.
