I looked at doing this with my fj55. I still think it would be cool. I opted for the V8 for all the reasons that have been mentioned and for the price I could get more power. If I already had the motor like your friend I would use it. If it ends up being slow he can always supercharge it. A friend of my brother did just that in a 40 and loves it. He can also run lower gears since the 3.4L runs so well at 3100rpms. Also, didn't Scott Brady's taco weigh in at a wopping 6600lbs? I think there is plenty of power to be had. He needs to remember that the V6 is much lighter than the I6. I lost a good 300lbs going to a V8 in mine cruiser. I think he should do it.
