Small world; I lived there 2 summers ago for 5 months! Rented a house on the way to Pastora for $450 per month 3 bedrooms!
Do you mean Palm beach? I had the carnitas there, and need to go get more! Thanks! Any info is appreciated! Mike

Cool man, if you lived there for 5 months than you know exactly where you were going.... I was only there for 4 days! Cerritos of course is what I was talking about. Pretty crazy, there was a group of guys next us all day. At the end of the day we split and about 20 minutes later one of them drowned. Heavily alcohol related though unfortunately... The food place, Mariscos on the left coming down the hill. Awesome, Martin the guy who runs it is just awesome. Tell him your opinions on Obama and he might bring you a free Sol on the house :) And Miguel's of course, the place with the roof of surfboards at the bottom of the hill on the right coming down hill. Both of these are relatively cheap at least within Baja standards. Baja is expensive IMO, way more than Oaxaca last time I was down there, borderline American prices. You can camp/crash on Cerritos and almost make it your new home. Also make sure you check our San Pedrito which was one of the most awesome places we checked out. I'll have to post some pics when I get a chance. There were wild horses running around on the beach... By far the cheapest place to get beer is on the way to La Paz north of town. Also, if you go to La Paz make sure you check out Balandra north of town. You could camp ujp there too on the beach as well. Right up there with unreal places I have been too.. When you take the Ferry over from the main land assuming your are coming from Mazitlan, Balandra is literally maybe 5 miles north of the ferry dock on the La Paz side... But make sure you check out La Paz too. It is really killer, especially at night. Awesome city, very European I thought actually... Hope it helps man!, just killer, all of it :)

Here's a pic of Balandra from some cheezy tourist website. It really looks like this though :)

Ferry

Looks great! I took the ferry in the past both @ Santa Rosalia from Guaymas and Topolabampo-La Paz. One is like the love boat, the other is a freakin' nightmare! Even my 2 dogs got sick! The better ones are the one further south. I spent like 2 days there in your photo! Chillin out and enjoying the peace! Yes it does help- Now I am fired up to leave. I pick it up tomorrow, put everything into storage, leave by Thursday! I voted by mail=Obama, and now I want to travel and forget...

Cerritos

Too funny, Cerritos! Last time i was there there were planting 30 ft. tall palm trees and fences. My 1st surf trip ever I lived in my step van @ Cerritos for 3 months, hitting the beaches, food, and some bar on the main road back to town on the right-sports bar, cook your own steaks, eat outside!

Today!

I could not sleep at all last night anticipating getting my truck, now in a few hours!

I will post more pictures later today! YEAH.

I hope the photo works, this was my 1st Expedition Vehicle! This is @ Cerritos, I lived near "Beaner Hill", on the beach for three months, across from some palypa south of the taco stand.

Mike the Landcruiser looks good!

You mention you have done the ferry before with your dogs? How did they handle the ride? Did you have to leave them in the car? From what I have been told you can't get back down to your car once you start moving?

BTW the Bing sticker makes the entire rig! (nice guy too)

Dude that is awesome... A step van! I need to post up some pics from Brown Sugar... Back when gas was cheap she made the trip to Baja every summer. Belonged to some school teach hippie surfers who live in Moab. Had a solar panel on the roof and dual batts. They would beach it all summer long and ride around their bikes. Came with a high lift jack and banged up running boards from digging her out...

Too funny, mine also came with a solar panel, I use now with the cruiser. I used to drive to Baja a lot, to do the same thing, I can see it all over again.

Thanks! I just got a new Bing Diablo, Skip Frye has 1 of the 3 made!

My experience is I have ridden 2 different ferries, 8 times, and took dogs on both ferries; On the ferry over from Guaymas to Santa Rosalia, I never got out of my step van, slept the whole way over inside with them. Of course the step van had no windows, and a black curtain blocking light out. I also know a Canadian couple does the same thing in their R.V.; they never unload. In all the commotion of people parking and walking, no one knows if I get out or not. I felt better, and the dogs did too. Until we hit some freak windstorm creating waves like the North Sea! I should have known when they offered sickness tablets as we loaded...I was able to be sure the dogs did okay, and I dealt with tossing cargo as the small ship was pitched around like a toy boat.

The ferry from La Paz to Los Mochis is like the LOVE BOAT compared to the much smaller and not so pleasant one north in Guaymas, but because it is so big, and controlled better, I had to get out, and actually enjoyed the ride, and the 2 dogs did fine.

I will also do it again this trip on the return route, crossing again to Baja with 2 dogs, en-route to surf a certain long, long, long, point break; middle of Baja's coast.

You can find out the schedule by googling Baja Ferries. I cross over always at night so the heat is not a problem for the dogs. I see which schedule matches my trips needs, then I drive down the coast, either closer, or a bit farther, to whichever works out. Either way the time and gas you save by taking the ferry is well worth the cost, which also is not bad. I paid maybe $250 USD for myself and the truck to ride the boat.

Hope this helps.

Mike,
That is awesome!!! Glad you made it down there OK. Oaxaca is great, one of my favorite spots in Mexico. Try to check out the festivities in Oaxaca City during Christmas. It is a really cool spot for Christmas. Also, the festivities for La Virgen de Guadalupe are coming up (may be in full force already). That is always a site to see.
Have fun and keep us posted.
