Has anyone ever use the ambulance body and removed the frame so there is just a flatdeck remaining? The ambulance has a 12ft box on it right now.. a flatbed would be very useful for hauling... later I would build a slide on truck style camper. This would be a pretty versitile rig..at least thata how im justifying buying another project.. lol
Have owned a couple fuso 4x4s that I wanted do thia with but ended up selling them because of bad frame rust. The fuso would allow for a 12-14ft slide on camper without bunk over the cab. The ambulance chasis would allow similiar length with the benifit of being able to have a bunk over the cab... Has anyone ever done this

See Ujoint Offroad's V4 build. (a very awesome rig!)
To quote from that build "V4 started life as an ambulance in GA"

Why? Why not just buy an F series truck? You will save a ton of $$ if you get one that's already 4x4.

Because anyone can do that! Some of us like to work long hours and make things as painful as possible :D

There are a few benefits of doing the van. Shorter overhangs, overall length (V4 is 18' overall with a 10' bed) etc

Ah, I see. Going rockcrawling with an RV are we? :)
I should talk, I talk up vans to everyone. And mine has rock rash and a lot of desert pinstriping.
