Flippac mounting?

There is a possibility I will be buying a second hand flippac and since I would be travelling a few hundred miles to pick up wanted to be sure I can fasten properly for the ride home.
It would be going in a 2005 tacoma double cab...short bed...
I will be remounting the flippac more permanently after I get home with better sealing/gasket/caulk but how easy is it to just "bolt down" and go...for the short term...I have tried to find posts regarding mounting but am unable to find the specifics.
Seller says just 6 bolts...are these c type like my snug top camper shell or do the bed rails have to be drilled. Plastic bed caps removed?
Hoping to hear from one of you with a flippac.
Thanks
Matt

You should be able to get by just using C-clamps for the drive home.

FRP mounted someone else's flippac to my truck this way for a test fit before I bought mine, it worked fine. I'd stay on pavement though until you get it bolted on. Mine is bolted on through holes drilled in the bed rails.

Another option, bolt in a length of 1 1/2” angle iron in place of the slide bedrail tracks. Keep the plastic bed rail caps for now and align the angle so its flush with the top of the plastic cap and pointed inward.

With the Flippac positioned on the truck, drill into the angle iron using the Flippac mounting holes as guides.

C clamps have been the PERMANENT solution for guys that stay on road. They will get you home as long as you A) buy decent ones, B) torque them down right, and C) recheck them after a few miles just like straps and lugnuts.

This is how mine is mounted, plastic caps removed, copious EPDM rubber bulb gasket, silicone at the front corners, 6 bolts with washers and nylock nuts drilled through the FP and into the bed utility tracks. Very secure and sealed.

Do it right the first time and forget about it, it's an easy project. :costumed-smiley-007
