🚙 Ultra-Rare Left-Hand Drive Troop Carrier — 1HZ Diesel Motor

If you're looking for a unicorn Land Cruiser, you've just found it.

This is a 2006 Toyota HZJ78 Troop Carrier, factory-equipped with the legendary 1HZ 4.2L inline-6 diesel engine — known globally as the “Million Mile Motor” for its bulletproof reliability and ease of service.

But what makes this Troopy truly exceptional?

👉 It’s LEFT-HAND DRIVE.

Unlike the flood of right-hand-drive imports from Japan, Middle East and Australia, this Troopy is LHD — perfect for Canada and U.S. roads, legal and insurable in every province and state and a non issue driving the Pan American (some countries don't allow RHD).

This configuration is RARELY for sale in North America and will only go up in value.

🧭 Backstory: A Vehicle With Proven Adventure DNA

- Current Owner Purchased in Nicaragua in 2023 and drove in Nicaragua for two years. In March 2025 drove vehicle over 8,000 km through Central and North America to Canada — a rare feat considering the intense bureaucracy and challenges involved in legally exporting a vehicle from Nicaragua.

- Originally owned by a Canadian charitable organization in Nicaragua, which means it was maintained to North American standards its entire life — not abused by a mining company or government fleet where maintenance is often neglected.

- Now legally registered in British Columbia with all taxes and import duties paid. It carries a clean BC title

— a massive bonus for any North American buyer.

✅ Rust-Free Advantage

This is one of the most important selling points: there is no rust on the frame or body — only a few minor surface spots.

Most imported Troop Carriers suffer from significant rust issues, especially on the chassis, body seams, drip rails and windshield frame. This Troopy is an outlier — solid, clean, and ready for decades of use.

🔧 Mechanically Rejuvenated — Ready for Your Vision

This is not a showroom queen — and that’s a good thing. It’s a clean, stock-correct Troopy, giving you a blank canvas to build your dream overlander or restore to collector-grade condition.

A thoughtful mid-level mechanical refurbishment was completed over the past 12 months, including:

✅ New timing belt & all accessory belts

✅ New hoses

✅ New injectors

✅ Alternator replacement

✅ New Keys/Ignition Tumbler

✅ New Battery 2024

✅ Original Factory Split Steel Rims (Tube Tires)

✅ Skinny Factory Style Tires (40% remaining)

✅ All fluids flushed

✅ Refurbished A/C & heater system

✅ New factory snorkel

✅ New front wiper motor and blades

✅ Window tint (legal)

✅ New headlamps wired to comply with Canadian DRL law

✅ New suspension bushings throughout

✅ Rebuilt front & rear brakes

✅ New Window and Door Seals

✅ New filters throughout (air, fuel, oil)

✅ Full outside repaint (2022) in original white (numerous chips but no dents)

✅ All upholstery redone in 2024 (seats, door cards)

✅ And many other small trim upgrades

🔩 Key Factory Features

- Legendary 1HZ 4.2L Diesel Engine (292,000 km) – the most durable diesel Toyota ever built

- 5-Speed Manual Transmission

- Factory Manual/Auto Locking Hubs – the exact same style still used in 2025 Troop Carriers

- Single Fuel Tank (90L total)

- Split barn doors in rear

- High roof, long wheelbase WorkMate configuration – ultimate layout for overland build-outs

- No electronics – pure mechanical simplicity

🧠 Why This Troopy Is Special

- LHD Troop Carriers were never officially sold in Canada or the U.S.

- Ideal candidate for:

- Overland build

- Collector preservation

- Adventure travel/global shipping

- Zero ECU, zero emissions sensors, zero nonsense. Just steel, diesel, and simplicity.

- Rust-free chassis and body — a true rarity among Troopies.

🧭 The Opportunity

This Troopy isn’t perfect — and that’s exactly the appeal.

It’s been mechanically refreshed and tastefully preserved, ready for someone to make it their own.

Nice! Maybe you could adopt me and let me keep it registered in BC? Wish this were legal in the US. I'm serious about the adoption part!

Yes, I also wish it was legal to bring into Hawai'i. I do actually have family in Victoria and Vancouver. Just FYI current exchange rate (Aug 1, 2025) is $57,713.03 USD which makes it much more reasonable.
