I am looking to sale my custom built overland trailer I been building for the last 3 years off and on. I'm a structural steel fabricator by trade, always wanted to build a custom built overland trailer, and I'm about 90% finish depending on which way I wanted to go. However due to some medical issues, I have stop working on this project, and decided to sale it since I could use the money right now. The only thing left on this build is all the cosmetics and paint/powder coating. The trailer looks heavy, however it's only 2000lbs as of now, pulls very smooth, and straight. The trailer design was going to feature a 6 gallon DSI water heater and a exterior shower. The rear was going to have a sink/stove that slide out the back and a 45 gallon water tank mounted to the center of the trailer. I have the 45 gallon water tank with a custom steel mount, RV exterior shower, sink, stove, two brand new 2.5 gallon propane tanks with custom mounts. It will need a 6 gallon DSI water heater or some sort of water heater to make this work.
I originally wanted a Turtleback trailer, but I didn't have the 25k+ to throw at a Turtleback trailer, so I decided to build my own. So after doing some research, I decided it was time to build my own. I first started with the frame, it's fully boxed in using 2x3x3/16" square tube steel and was welded with dual shield flux core wire, overkill I know, but I had the option so I went with it. I built the fenders out of 1x2x.083 square tube and used 12 gauge sheet metal for the fenders. I than used some 2x2x3/16" square tube and 12 gauge sheet metal for the steps around the fenders. The rear bumper is built from 1/4" plate, has a 2.5" standard receiver, and has a 1 3/8" tire carrier spindle that has been sleeved into the bumper. I drilled 1/2" to 1" holes in the frame, this allowed me to install a piece of 1" round tube down the trailer frame, so I could run all the wiring inside the frame rail, keep it tucked up inside away from rocks and bushes. The trailer frame has custom plates welded to the bottom for led rock lights, as well as custom trick tab plates that have 1/2" nut welded in the center of the hole, that way the cargo box on top can bolt to the frame. The two side boxes than bolt to the fenders and the side of the cargo box. I was originally going to have this trailer powder coated, so I was trying to come up with a simple way to get powder coating on all sides and being able to bolt it together once its all done. The cargo box is built from 1x2x.083 square tube and 14 gauge sheet metal on the top, sides, and doors. The cargo box floor is made using a sheet of 12 gauge sheet metal, since it's a bit more rigid than the 14 gauge sheet metal. The tire carrier is built out of 2x2x3/16" square tube with a 1 3/8" spindle, DOM tube with bearing races, and a locking latch. The tire carrier has a adjustable tire mount for 31" to 38" tire, hi-lift jack mount up on top of the tire carrier arm, and two Rotopax mounts on each side of the tire to help with the weight.
I went with a Dexter 3500lb axle with heavy duty leaf packs and 10" drum 5 lug brakes. I added 2x2x3/16" square tube that was capped and gusseted to the frame to give it a 2 inch lift, which would help clear those 37" MT tires. The trailer axle length is very similar to a JK/JL Wrangler width, since I went with the same bolt pattern, 5 lug or 5x5.5. I also added some custom shock tabs that are offset for the heavy duty shocks that I have added to this trailer build. I am using a Bulldog pintle hitch and pintle ring that's fully adjustable on the frame and the hitch, which will be included with the trailer. The trailer currently weighs less than 2000lbs empty and the tongue weight is roughly 100-150lbs give or take. The trailer is 12ft in long and 6’ 8 ½” wide. The main cargo box is 4ft wide by 6ft in length, since the front narrows to a point, it’s 4ft wide by 3’8” long. The trailer is currently wired up with a 4 pin trailer wiring harness, since I recently had it inspected, registered with a brand new title and permanent tags. Below is a list of the current parts I have for this build, I will not sale individually, it's all being sold with this build. If your seriously interested shoot me a message and I would share all the information on this build. I have uploaded some pictures with my old Jeep and current Tacoma, personally I think this trailer would be best behind a SUV or Jeep Wrangler. Cash Only, No trades, Asking $7,500.00 OBO.
