Engine:

  • OM352 type, 5675cm3 displacement, four-stroke, direct injection, water-cooled, 6 cylinders, 130hp@2800rpm, 363Nm@1800rpm – possible adjustments (turbo kit) improving those parameters to about 170hp@2800rpm and 520Nm@1800rpm (doable in US)
  • The starter motor was replaced on 4-20-2018 (BOSH OEM parts were used).
  • All belts were recently replaced, along with the radiator fan shaft bearing.
  • A spare set of NAPA belts for all systems is included.

Brakes:

  • Hydraulic, dual-circuit disc brakes with compressed air booster and automatic load dependant brake control

Transmission:

  • Manual transmission: 8 forward gears, 4 reverse gears; 2WD, 4WD, and the clutch in good condition.
  • The entire drive train is enclosed and pressurized when in 4WD. (That’s cool.)

Axles:

  • Portal axles with low-speed differential ratio (as opposed to ‘fast’ axles, which are possible to mount, however), differential locks that can be pneumatically engaged and disengaged on the move without interruptions in traction.
  • UBELIX front portal axle breather kit installed for highway speeds. These recapture the axle oil and allow it to re-drain back into the front axle, not the driveshaft. You no longer have to check portal axle fluid levels every other day.

Frame:

  • Ladder-type frame, extreme torsional flexibility; torsion-free subframe under the living unit.

Suspension:

  • Coil springs and telescoping shock absorbers, due to the low weight of the vehicle they are in good condition after at least 50’000km, and the vehicle rides smoothly.

Tires:

  • Continental MPT 81 335/80 R20 installed 4-25-2018.
  • They currently have 12,000 miles on them and are about 60% treadwear.
  • The spare tire has 0 miles on it.

Overall dimensions:

  • Length: 6,33m (20ft 9in)
  • Width: 2,30m (7ft 6in)
  • Height: 3,35m (10ft 11in)
  • Weight: ~5700kg (12’566lb)
  • Gross weight: 7490kg (16’512lb)

Fuel system & speeds:

  • Diesel tanks: ~500L (2x250l)
  • Fuel consumption: 17.5 – 18 L/100km (13 – 13,4 MPG)
  • Range: It should be about 2500km (1550 miles). Confirmed at 2100 km, and there was still some fuel in the tanks.
  • Maximum speed: 86km/h (54mph)
  • Minimum speed: Imperceptible by GPS (due to very low ratio of crawling gears).
  • Best cruising speed: 67 – 70km/h (42-43mph)
  • All Fuel Tank braces and ribs have been checked and repaired as needed.

  • Decent noise insulation (tested during the nights spent in the middle of big cities)
  • Decent wind insulation (tested during extremally strong wind in southern Patagonia)
  • Great weight balance (right/left and up/down, all of the heavy loads are between the axles & as low as it was possible, the vehicle is lightweight and very stable)

Probably a good idea to mention whether or not it has working gears (usually 5.757:1) and crawlers (additional 9.75:1 for total 56:1 additional reduction).
Does it?
Also with slow axle/portal ratios, is there space for a Claas overdrive, or is something in the way like a rear PTO?
Because the first question Unimog newbies always ask is “will it cruise at 80mph on the interstate in Texas?”

Thank you for the question.

I do not think the MOG has working gears. It was a radio truck in the German Army. It was not used to haul anything besides the electronics and antenna. I will however check to verify the gearing.

It does not have a rear PTO.

The MOG is happy cruising at 45, and can do 55, but it's not happy about it.
I lived in Los Angeles for a few years and did take the interstates.

One needs to adapt to "la dolce vita"— (slow life) and enjoy the secondary roads.
I've been cross country twice in this truck and they were some of the most relaxing drives of my life.
No reason to hurry, you have your self contained house and eveything you need with you...

If you have the build sheet/option list, look if it came with G20 (working) and even G21 (crawler).
If it’s ex BW (Bundeswehr), the answer is very likely no.

I've checked the original paperwork and inside this manual...
1000001970.jpg

are some documents detailing that this was a Bundeswehr vehicle. (I don't speak or read German, but I recognize some of the words...)

Thanks for the input. I can also double check the gearing with the VIN.

I would also like to post this basic floor plan diagram.
e17rd9.jpg

There is a large storage area under the bed that can be accessed through the stairs inside the habitat, or through exterior doors on either side. The bed can also be removed to get access from above if needed, but that's more involved.
Q~
