Here are some updated photos. Lots of changes recently.
Now sporting a refinished flatbed with boxes on a 3-point pivot mount , F350 suspension front and rear, and a kingpin D60 up front.
Only thing left is a re-gear. Ditching the 4:10s for 3:55s, in hopes of breaking that 20mpg barrier unloaded, and 15mpg loaded with the camper. :ylsmoke:
I have a front and rear set of factory ford 3.73 gears for d60/sterling 10.5 if you interested in swaping for the 4.10's you have. they came out of my 2000 f350 with about 12k miles on them ...
Just picked up this camper last weekend for $50. It is in great shape and cant wait to get the back setup with a sleeping platform. I would also like to put a roof rack on the top where the rails are now. It has an aluminum frame so it can hold up some weight.
The truck is a 1997 Ford F150 Supercab 4x4 with the 4.6L V8 and 3.55 gearing with limited slip. Only mods done to it are 265/70/17 tires.
Hey guys, I have been a long time lurker and have just recently picked up an adventure worthy truck. I am not new to exploring and have had a FJ60 and R50 pathfinder before, but neither fit the all around vision that I currently have. I needed something that could fit my family of five, easily tow a car, do some back road exploring and camping, and be tough as nails. It took a year of searching but I finally found a OBS short crew 7.3 with a ZF5 that I could afford. So far I love it and cant wait to start adding parts to it. My plans are to swap in a D60, reverse the front shackles, flip the rears, 37" tires, and make bumpers and rocker guards. As I get a few more things going on it I will probably start a build tread to keep track of it. Here are some pictures
The day i got it
Took it up Mt. Pilchuck today
Had a chance to test the pulling power. We came across some teens that drove their S10 Blazer off the edge of the road and needed to be pulled back up onto it. They were incredibly lucky as they hit a stump about four feet down, if the stump wasn't there they would have rolled about 200ft down the hill and probably would have been dead. Since they were wedged up against the stump I had to hook up to the trailer hitch and pull them around 90* before I could pull them up the hill. The F250 made quick work of the task and made me really appreciate the torque of the 7.3, neither of my other trucks would have even moved the blazer let alone pulled it up the soft embankment.
