Scott,
Excellent post. Suscribed!
My wife and I used to own a 98 Forester when it was first introduced here in the USA; many years of reliability and great family hauler/camping vehicle to the snow/mountains with better mpg (vs our LR) and AWD.
Was going to trade it in for 2nd Gen Forester 2003-2008, but instead decided on 2005 Honda Pilot w/AWD (due to better towing capacity) to tow our 3500 lb boat.
Now i have a Land Rover that I can use for towing, wouldn't mind considering Forester again - pretty much same reasons you stated.
Will keep the LR for more diff trail use, but the Forester will be ideal for daily driver duty, long family trips, and better mpg.
In addition to safety, the Forester:
- Takes regular graded gasoline. Plus on the cost side, and places like Alaska has fewer stations that serves prem gasoline.
- Our family dog is getting older (hitting 10 years) and getting up the rear cargo will be eaiser as he gets even older.
My questions/concerns are: What RTT option is avail for this vehicle? Improving lighting for desert driving at night e.g. Movaje... - what after market options are avail? Also are you expanding the research for 3rd gen Forester 2009+? I test drove a 2011 XT Touring, and the grin is still on my face! :bike_rider:
Thanks!
