Found some diamond plate aluminum in the shed...

While I was cleaning out my shed I found a 2'2" x 5'6"x 3/16" sheet of diamond tread aluminum I had forgotten about.

I immediately put it on Craigslist for a best offer price. Then I got to thinking that I might be able to build a box for the back of my XJ with it.

But I've never worked with aluminum before.

Have any of you built any boxes out of it?

Pro's cons of using it for a rear cargo box/drawer system?

Any and all input and suggestions are appreciated.

Thanks

Chad

I'm building two drawers out of aluminum.. for my storage system.
I was looking to use diamond plated aluminum but after doing some reading on it..
I learned that alloy 5052 is pliable and can be bend just like steel with out cracking...
I don't think there is any cons in using them for a drawer system...
I would def paint them tho' and put some sort of rubberized bottom to avoid rattles and clanking once they are loaded..

One huge plus is you can cut it using simple wood working tools. It's also a lot lighter than wood or steel for that application.
i say go for it!
