Why not just use a couple of appropriately-sized Quick Fists attached to the plate. It'll be more secure than the mag clips but still removable and only costs $7.95 for a pair...

Are you proposing mounting those around the upper or lower fairlead? I don't know that you would be able to feed the loop around the fairlead? Maybe though.

I'm thinking more like the side rollers--I think you may have enough room there. I agree, most of the horizontal rollers on fairleads don't leave much room at all.
