Front receiver hitch 01-04 Tacoma

Not Tacoma specific, but I bought a Curt front reciever for my 06 Tundra and it didn't fit - going back and forth with the manufacturer to determine the problem. The Curt unit allows the front skidplate to remain in place - a similar product from Reese requires the skidplate to be removed and not replaced. So I guess my point is to check out the installation instructions for each to make sure it is something you'll like.

Im still considering doing the front receiver hitch with winch cradle, it looks like hitch would sit just below the plastic valance/license plate. Still have not see anybody with pics but it looks like it would tuck up without much loss in clearence and would not need to remove skid like Gen 2. I wish CBI made a mount for my year where the receiver is up behind valance and comes out behind license plate, that is slick!
I decided I dont want the weight of winch/bumber hanging off the front end, this seems to be a good solution, downside is what to do with winch when not in use. I think I would lose a lot of approach angle when cradle attached, so driving around with it on is no good.
Anyone doing this that can give advice? Is it a PITA to move around, attach, pack, etc...
Or should I forget the front receiver and just winch off rear, what are pros/cons of this?

I am still debating this. At first, I wanted a winch on a cradle so I could use it for either of my trucks. However, there really isn't a good place to put the set up when not in use (besides on the hitch) and they are heavy as heck! At this point, I think I am just going to buy a Harbor Freight winch on sale for each truck and mount them in the bumpers ( I have an ARB on one, and a TJM on the other) It's probably not what you wanted to hear, but I have talked myself out of the winch on a cradle concept.
