My cousin has some crazy idea to sell his 12H-T converted 62. Since I can't talk him out of it, maybe I can talk one of you into it. I have driven the truck and it is very nice. The combination of the torquey, direct-injection diesel and the 5-spd makes you feel like you're driving a real machine. If I had a place for it at my house I wouldn't be posting it for you fellas.
Price $16,500.

From my cousin:
1990 FJ62 with a 12HT + H55F dropped in by Man-A-Fre in 2008 (half cut said 450k km on the clock... engine/tranny from SOR), 3" exhaust, pyro (post turbo) and boost gauges, manual boost controller set to 14lbs - dash gauges/lights rewired appropriately for the diesel (tach, sedimeter, intake heater), added Wilson switch, proudly wears the Turbo tag on the front grille

The engine runs flawlessly and fires up instantly every time, pulls strong. Averages about 20mpg. *Always* cool the turbo down before shutoff.

New Centerforce clutch installed at the time of engine swap
OME medium/medium full kit w/ greasable shackles
heavy duty front sway bar
33" BFG A/T (Jan '11)
new front rotors/brakes done about 1.5 yrs ago
new water pump last summer
new Odyssey battery (Jan '11)
full length custom built roof rack with expanded steel deck
upgraded headlights (new harness) w/ high output high-beams
AC works great (current freon standard- system converted)
All windows/door locks work. New master switch panel

Overall the body is in excellent shape except for minor (not very noticeable) damage to rear left QP; is *rust free*. Clearcoat has faded on roof/hood. It spent most of its life in Phoenix, perhaps two years in Colorado, and now its in SoCal.

Perfect dash (no cracks), clean interior, looks like previous owner re-upholstered the front seats - not stock but looks good.

He's currently got it registered in Colorado. Neither he nor I are familiar enough with the regs in California to give a good answer, but he'd be more than willing to dive into that question for a potential buyer. He might just do it out of curiosity. Am I right in saying that it would have to do with the model year of the engine?

Did I mention how clean this thing is? More to come tomorrow.

Miles since conversion: ~50k (80k km)
Compression test being done Monday
A few puffs of black on startup, then done. He says this is pretty normal for this level of diesel technology.
12 volt system.

How many miles on the tires.
Any upcoming maintenance needed.
330k on the engine, when do these engines generally need a re-build.
How many miles on the chassis.
Does this have a mechanical pump.
Does it still have the rear drum brakes.
Do you have results for the compression test.

Skim - All signs point to no, the diesel came from an earlier vehicle than the frame.

Fergie - I wish it was mine, because I want your Westy!

My cousin had a buyer on the line a while back, but I never heard if he reached a deal. I haven't heard from him for a bit - I'll try getting in touch with him to see if he still has it.
