Allow me to offer my .02 cento-thingies...
Having looked at all the pics he was kind enough to send me I would like to offer my opinion.
Somebody buy this!
Is it flawless and will it be some uber-fast, round the world no issue ever rig? well, no. BUT(T)....it has several things going for it not the least of which is just good old fashioned COOL factor! And given what it is it has MUCHO-Potential! All the lockable boxes and relatively low wind signature are nice. Do some fabrication, add a RTT or make a POP up trailer work on it (minus the axle assm. duh) and spend a little on modernizing it and whamO. For an older IH this thing really shows Very little rust! And even if the drivetrain is a little...um, oldskool?...it is well over and past a 1 ton by todays standards! If I had some extra money this is how I would build it...
Pull the engine/tranny/tcase and sell them to an IH Scout/travelall/whatever.
Find a good, wrecked Dodge Cummins powered truck with a 5 or 6 speed tranny and swap it in. Aquire a set of axles that are at least 1 ton and run disc brakes at all corners. Remove some of the leaf springs and maybe go with some air bags out back.
Does this sound like a lot of work? Depends...honestly. But there are three good reasons for doing it this way IMHO.
Its drivable as is and would serve as a starting platform until one could gather the bigger parts, no rush.
The end result would be something you would have a great understanding of and available parts all around the country!
Cool factor...Well, If this has to be explained then you wasted your time reading all this!
If I had the spare $$ (and this is a very reasonable price BTW) and wasn't getting sent to Germany thanks to the Army and could take on a long term project...this would be a great start!
Best of luck and I hope someone snatches this up soon! Cheers!
