Fuel can preferences

ZBQ-1410 - NATO Fuel Can Army Green 18x13x6.5" Used Condition - Manufactured by: Military

I did the chat with the person thing on cheaper than dirt....

Scott: Hi, I was wanting to order that fuel can, but am unclear about the nozzle to order for it
Andrew: let me see if we have some in stock.
Andrew: Military Fuel Can Nozzle with Rubber Hose Fits NATO Style Fuel Cans - Hose is Replacable Item #: ZBQ-1411 Our Low Price: $9.97
Scott: "MGR-831 is the correct nozzle for this can" is what the info for the fuel can says
Scott: that is the correct hose? i had ordered one before and got the wrong hose, that is why I am checking
Andrew: It will not fit into an unleaded tank. You will need a funnel.
Scott: the hose is to large?
Andrew: Yes, the hose is too large. Unleaded vehicles require that the nozzle be different than leaded gas vehicles.
Andrew: You can put unleaded gas into a vehicle that has an leaded gas filler spout, but not the other way around.
Scott: Ok, it looks like I will be looking for a different can and spout...

Anyone know if this is correct or not?

Does anyone know if the wedco spout works with the older nato cans?

This can is has the common sized mouth:

This one has the larger mouth that I have only ever seen here:

I have both the all metal spout and the metal/plastic spout, and I like the all metal one better. Here is where I got the metal spout:

I usually just leave the can mounted on the truck and use a super siphon to put the fuel into the tank.

I have a bunch of the NATO cans and absolutely love them. None of them has ever leaked, no matter what orientation they're in. I would recommend them highly.

I have two of the MGR-831 nozzles. They WILL fit an unleaded filler neck, but they are poor quality and they leak when pouring. They also have no provision for venting, so they pour verrrrrrry slowly. No great loss that they are unavailable.

The ZBQ-1411 appears to be actual military surplus, which would generally mean good quality. It would not be difficult to make a reducer or new hose that would fit into an unleaded filler neck. That's what I did with one of the MGR-831 nozzles I have. I removed the nozzle section and saved just the base with the short, solid stub on it. Then I put on a rubber nozzle and it works great for my old trucks. For an unleaded filler neck, I use a reducer to fit. One thing not mentioned in the listing for the ZBQ-1411 is whether or not it has a vent for use on the NATO cans. If not, it will pour very slowly.

The Wedco spout will not work on the NATO cans. Wedco made a small change in the vent so it will not mate up with the vent tube in the NATO cans. I suspect they did that intentionally.

I woudn't bother with spouts. Just get a Super Siphon and call it a day. No lifting the cans in and out of your rack, no leakage issues.

You likely already did, but check brigadequartermasters. I just ordered two fuel and two water and received them of the Scepters!

So, now that Scepter is no longer selling fuel cans to the public, I need to find a buddy for my existing Scepter can.

What is the new, accepted replacement for the Scepter cans? I see Blitz has a metal one, but not sure how leak proof-ish it is if I were to set it up like this...

If anyone wants to sell me two scepter gas cans, i'll snatch them from you so that I dont have to carry around multiple spouts.

Maybe my emails went to the spam box? I havent actually tried ordering from them because I had questions about the product before I ordered... didnt receive a response, so I didnt order. Nothing personal I reckon.

When? Seems as if they only sell to military people now.

The cans arrived about 3 weeks ago. Ordered just a couple days before that. Hmmmm. ?
