My fuel return lines started leaking on a trip this weekend. They are 1/4" fuel hose. The one at the end which turns was leaking on mine. People on the MB forum I frequent have noticed that fuel return lines seem to be failing more frequently with the new low sulphur fuel. I have noticed it on my 85 MB TD. It's probably worth carrying a couple of feet of hose in your truck. Easy to change. Only need pair of pliers to squeeze the clamps and pull off the old hose.
You'll notice a slight odor of diesel around the outside of the truck when they start leaking.
