FUSO FG Seats?

Q: is that one of the bases you just installed?

A; A bit hacked to get it in, but yeah that's one of them. 3" of travel (only), but it's nice to be able to dial in anything from no travel to full travel, depending on what kind of a surface you're on.

Sig line of answering party: 2012 Fuso FGB87, 5.285 diffs, w/ATW suspension, 19.5" wheels, and Toyo tires.

So has any one actually installed this in a fuso?

As I understand it, anyone that has fitted National suspension seats into a Fuso has used this seat base, or one very similar to it.
To me it looks very customizable. I don't know which would be better... fitting the seat slides to the bottom or top of the seat base, but with this design it looks like you get to make that decision yourself.
Definitely something I might consider when it comes to replacing my crappy Stratos suspension seats.

I was sent this from the USA branch of ISRI. They got it from Germany. The salesman wants me to look it over and confirm so he can ask Germany for more information and prices. He did say he can get them for anyone in the USA. As well he offered two other slides for rigid mounts if anyone is interested.

Very interesting, and I wouldn't be surprised if they already have it set up for the Canter.

One of the things that's driving me nuts about the National seats is how loose they are. Vibration, and especially a regular cyclic vibration can get the passenger seat moving, creaking, knocking, squeaking, etc. Where I'm located currently, in Southern California, we have poured concrete freeways with expansion joints. So when the FG is hopping and bouncing over the joints, it gets transmitted to the seats...I might do a video today to let everyone see what happens. I'm on the edge of actually doing something about it. Possibly some nylon track inserts to shim the system tighter, extra lube, and some other things might help too. But it's plenty annoying now.

Anyway, I'd be interested also in seeing the ISRI set up ,and costs.

Funny you should mention this - I was looking at my National seats today to try and figure out some way to reduce the slop, with no success. I don't think it is a lube issue - when the air bag is fully inflated the seat is pretty solid, for me it is slop in the mechanical parts that allows it to rock back and forth that I find annoying.

Rick has been a big help and not stopped trying to make sure I can get the seats. He has given me a contact a Hino to try and get seats via them. So we will see as this unfolds more.

Hi Rick,

your answer is absolutely correct.
He can only get the seat by the official dealer network of Daimler.

Thanks,
Mario

Ah, you too, eh?

Yep, with air bag inflated it's under enough tension to keep the scissor pivots quiet. Where the issue arises is the slop in the actual rack slider - the fore and aft mechanism. It's sloppy in all axis, and the only way I can reasonably think to solve it is to mill out some thin nylon or UHMW strips that would slide inside the rack, between the two pieces. Both sides, and bottom. Either figure out a way to rivet them in, or do a plastic stud system that's fitting in some drilled holes in the female side of the slider, and then melt the studs down, giving a plastic rivet.

That's interesting..

I am having a hard time picturing it actually fitting in the fuso with out my head being in the roof

Do you have any pictures of the national base installed in a fuso?

Mike

Try this post, if you need more detail I can shoot some more : http://www.expeditionportal.com/for...-to-go-fast-or-anything?p=1829393#post1829393

I'll just add that the seats are definitely higher, and your sight line will be just that many inches upwards. I've gotten used to it, but I've also managed to have a seat in Howards Stratos seat and it's much lower. The air seats, once they're properly set up (and you need to set them up for each individual that's using them), can take large hits with no issues. 3" of travel is a considerable amount, and even though the Stratos seats seem to have a decent spring rate, I'm not sure how well they'd work taking a big hit with that much less suspension travel. The other thing I've found is that with the seat base being higher, I'm actually in a more comfortable seating position - I'm 6'2".

In practice, I normally have the seat lowered with only an inch or so of travel, if I get into the rough stuff I raise it for more travel. Also...be prepared for annoying squeaks. Pugsllyyy has them too.

Ok hmm what year is your fuso?

I noticed that the gmc t7500 has a national air seat even with a pump for the seat.

I might go measure to see if that base could fit
