Im looking at a 98 fuso fg with 57k miles on it. I want to use it as a work truck and a bit of a toy. Im not familiar with these and was wondering around what they go for.

Probably helpful if you mention where you are located (US I am guessing), as geography plays a big part in pricing.
And... welcome to the forum.

How offensive is the rust on it? Plow trucks lead rough lives, and the mileage is way low - did it sit for a long time?

Well I think going and looking at it is the right thing to do. Could be a great truck, could be a nightmare - too many variables. Let us know what you see and post pictures!

There was a early 2003 or 04 (cant remember) for sale here in colorado with a dump bed and plow for 27k last year.

Colorado and PA are way different when it comes to rust. Rust can be a very serious problem on Fusos. Did you see the one posted today on Ebay with only 76k miles or so?
I'd expect to see that truck going for at least $12k.

Hmm, okay (but just throwing darts at the wall) - surface rust (requiring cleanup and paint), no dry rot, everything looks good - as high as $12-15k. Deep rust basket case(requiring cutting and welding) - $5k or less

Anyone else want to throw some darts? This is just one persons opinion.

Yes, I agree PA and CO bring different rust levels to the table just wanted to help him out with a ball park. I hope this one is rust free for him as i love seeing the FUSO builds.

Unfortunately it was very rusty. The frame was very flaky. The worst of it was two areas under the body that were rusted through and one small hole in the frame. Its not an entire loss. My 4x4 one ton van was rotted all around the bottom and i cut out everything and welded new in. So its "do-able", but not something that i'd jump for joy to get the opportunity to do. Its a shame because i think they're really neat trucks.
