fuso gxv

I think it would be fairly simple for them to take a turtle style box and stick it on a fuso chassis. It would make a fairly compact truck too.

could be wrong, but I am guessing the wt of the turtle body could be the issue. Could also be that no one has asked for that combination. I bet that if someone came in and asked Mike and Rene' to make it, they would try to make it work. I don't know the gvwr for fuso, but I believe the turtle on the ford f550 is pretty close to its limit. Otherwise, I agree , it would make a really nice rig. Too bad fuso doesn't have a 4x4 in the class 5-6 range in the usa with the power of the mog u500. I was at GXV and looked at the used fuso. It was a nice set up. Just not enough power to tow much , which I need. Also, the cab to cabin access is pretty small on the fuso compared to the ford/turtle combo.

Just did a comparison between ford 550 and fuso fg 4x4. Ford gvwr 19,500, diesel- 300 hp, 660 ft lb torque. Fuso- gvwr 14,050 lb. 4 cyl diesel- 161 hp with 295 ft lb torque. You would give up a lot of power for that fuso turtle.

No question, the F550 with 800 ft lbs of torque is the right choice if you need to barrel along the Interstate. If you're driving in foreign lands, or the back roads of USA, the Fuso will do fine.

Turtle Fuso

The used Fuso is the same size body in width, height and length as our standard turtle. This truck has a total payload of 14,050 pounds.

The body thickness is the same and essentially everything to do with the body is the same as what we currently build on our turtle class vehicles. This particular body has all glass windows which weigh a bit more than the acrylic windows. The completed weight was approximately 12,000 wet. Leaving close to 2000 pounds for additional payload.
The Fuso as 12 V and 24 V as well as 50hz and 60hz capabilities. It is a vehicle that can be used anywhere in the world. You can plug in to power anywhere you're at. And the luxury of finding service centers essentially anywhere in the world.

The turtle class body on the Ford chassis is a whole different story. The new Ford chassis have a 19,500 pounds GVW.

Weight for the turtle class body with all components can be anywhere from 4000 to 6000 pounds depending on components.

Ford has substantially more power as well as payload capacity. It is just not near as serviceable outside the US.

Everything has a place in the world.
