FUSO HQ in Japan unexpectedly and a surprise to pretty much everyone decided to cancel the FUSO FG 4x4 diesel option for United States market in 2015/16.
For us it would have been lights out and game over. It was critical for us as it was the only platform we had to built our overland vehicles on in the United States.
We had invested heavily in promotion of the truck for overland travel, the tooling and infrastructure to manufacture EarthCruiser products. This is long before "overlanding" was gaining any real momentum in America as it does now.
I asked if we could shoot over to the factory in Kawasaki for yarn with anyone who would listen and talk about what the FG meant to little business like ours and the community of overland builder just like us. They listened and they restarted to build truck for the USA.
It was incredible such a large company helped they way they did.
The FUSO FG 4x4 has since become somewhat of a classic chassis for overland travel .
The bad news for me is I had to give that hat back, really liked the hat.
