FWC Shower?

(I couldn't find info in my search, so figured I'd post)

Do any of you have the inside shower in your FWC or other popup?
I was not planning to get one, but a friend of mine says I'll regret not getting one, so asking y'alls opinion.

Yea? Nay? Why?

TIA

Sounds like you are buying a new FWC and considering options? That I know nothing about, but....

I have a used '88 FWC Keystone (one of the bigger ones). I want to put a shower in it, for sure. Many of the places I want to go have no showers, but still there are enough people around that an outdoor shower isn't feasible. I hate that "haven't showered in a couple days" feeling.

Think I need to go looking for someone's pop-up camper build thread with indoor shower install.....

I'm putting one in my Alaskan build, but it's a lot easier to do from scratch(I made a whole new lower section, so I incorporated the shower into the design). I will post pics when it's done, but it's a 2' square copper shower pan inset into the floor(3/4" ply subfloor with 3/4 foam on top and 1/2" ply on top of the foam)
I bought a Spray Away hot/cold shower port for below the inside sink, and another for outside. I have a 6 gallon electric/propane water heater.

If I was doing a retrofit, I would still install the Spray port in a cabinet and use something like plastic residential water heater leak pan (plastic pan 3" deep and maybe 24" dia) and put a garden hose fitting in the side. You could hang the shower curtain from the ceiling off a bungee connected to 4 drawer knobs screwed to the ceiling
Mine indoor shower will only be used when outdoor is not possible

I've been looking used FWC, but also kind of thinking that if I'm going to spend a lot of money, might as well get one with the options I want :)

The FWC shower is a really neat add-on, but I am wondering if people actually use them.
I could easily see using it a few times, it being a hassle to set up, and not using it much after that.
And it's not inexpensive.

I have the outdoor shower and use it on every trip. We just bought one of those porta-potty pop up enclosures. I can't speak for the indoor shower, but I know that I like not having to take it down after every use.

As a single female, I'm hesitant to use the outdoor shower.
I think I'd end up peeking out every few minutes and keep a baseball bat inside the shower with me.
My pug isn't much of a guard dog. :)

Have you felt wary of showering outside when alone?

Do you use it often?

We went with an in floor shower similar to the FWC and are very happy with the decision. It's really nice to have a hot shower available when you're away from facilities.
We use environmentally friendly camp soap and a 5g Jerry Can as our gray water holding tank. The water is then dumped either on the campfire or used to water the plants.

The only minor issue I have is the bulky shower curtain. It weighs about 20lbs. It's a leatherette type material and it's over 6' in length.
Can't stow it until it's dry - plan to shower before bed and leave it to drip-dry overnight. It's great for winter campers like us.

Attached: Old picture of the floor cap and pan placement.
We've since built a wood shower mat to replace the cap.

We use it all the time. My wife doesn't mind either. My pop up is large enough to actually go in clothed, shower, and dress. We keep a small table next to it for towels and stuff. We never really mind showering outdoors, but then, we are miles from anyone or anything.DSC_1268.jpg

I like having both indoor and outdoor showers. Outdoors for warm weather where I typically shower wearing a bathing suit and inside for colder temperatures. (Northstar TS1000)

Sounds like your buying new? If that's the case, depending on what else you add, your in it for +/- $21k anyway. For that money, you might as well add the shower. If your a solo camper, then having room to shower inside will not be much of a problem. In my case, once my wife, the dog, and all our stuff is inside, it's pretty tight.

That's kind of what I'm leaning towards now. "Might as well" is a reasonable argument at that price-point :)

I just didn't want to "might as well" for something that I'll never actually use.
That's my concern!

Before I bought my FWC, I did not shower....hey it's camping. But after I got it, the thought of a nice hot shower calls my name everyday. After a long day on the trail, a hot shower and a bottle of good beer or wine is just what the doctor ordered. I think once you use it, you won't regret it.
Good luck with your FWC, it's a great investment.

Okay, yes! that makes sense. I definitely do the "hey it's camping...." thinking but this is going to be more than just camping!

thanks all for the input!

We have a 2014 FWC Grandby. The day we placed our order we opted for the front dinette without the inside shower or toilet. That saved a considerable amount of money. We have the outside shower and I have only used it once. We bought a small shower tent and have never used it. Bought a porta potti that fits in the lower cabinet. I have no regrets about not ordering the inside shower. John
