Fzj80 tranny slip in first

I'm test driving a '94 and the tranny has a hard time going into first after Park. Is this common at all? Spendy?
Sorry for sprave detail. Doing this on an iPhone on the road...

Try adjusting the kick down cable first. Out of adjustment can cause a slip in 1st/2nd.

Is it slipping or not downshifting? Two way different problems with different diagnosis.

Smell the tranny fluid. Is it burnt? Is the color good? The 93-94 models have the A442F that was also used in 30,000 lb Hino buses. I have only heard of a few outright failures, and all of those were due to poor preventative maintenance.

It won't shift into first after park or neutral. To trick it I can first **** into 1st then drive. It works ok then.
