Garmin GPSMAP 64st link to ipad

Hey Everyone, I searched, Promise... I cannot find the answer to this question and I was just wondering if anyone has done this. I have an older IPAD, wifi, I was going to make this a dedicated mapping tablet and I was curious if the bluetooth in the Garmin GPSMAP 64st would like to the IPAD and so that I could use it as the GPS receiver. I have a good friend that does this with his Delorme Inreach, using a wifi only ipad and gaia and he says it works flawlessly. I would like the functionality of the 64st, but don't want to buy one if the ipad mapping setup wont work!

thanks everyone!

Sorry, I've not done what your asking, but I would get a dedicated BT GPS receiver - easier to hookup, IMHO

My Garmin GPSes BT is more for audio broadcasting, not sure how easy it is to set up a GPS64 as a receiver-only.
I only found info on how to do it with android devices, not iOS.

Thanks Dustin! I am starting to lean that way. I was hoping I could get an all in one, but to drop that kind of money and it not work would really stink!

I have the old 60csx and it works awesome for backpacking even trails in the truck, it is just too small to really see anything while you are driving.

thanks again!

I ended up buying a 10 inch lenovo and love it 175 bucks so pretty cheap with gps built in and you can use micro sd cards to store large areas of maps on MY iPad is very cool but didn't have a gps in it so I wasn't sure how to add a gps tracker and extra storage because of the limited ports on the iPad.

I got my 8 inch lepan for 90 bucks. Has built in GPS, SD card, USB, Bluetooth etc. I run a BT GPS to save battery in the unit it self. All in all, the unit works AWESOME.

I don't believe older iPads can receive BT GPS from GPS units that were NOT designed to work with iOS devices. Stuff like Garmin's GLO can do it, however. The InReach is designed to interface with an iOS device too.

Thanks Guys,

I found a cheap asus tablet with built in GPS and expandable memory. I will attempt that and see how it does, if needed I will get a bluetooth external gps receiver for it.

thanks for all the replies.
