Garmin NUVI 750 4.3" touchscreen GPS

Hi FJjamming-it's TJ, Kevin's 80 friend. :luxhello:

I'm looking for a GPS too. I think the difference between the US TOPO 24K National Parks, West and the TOPO U.S. 24K - West is the national parks one only covers the nationals parks in the west, while the other one covers all of california and neveda, I think... no personal experience but that's what it sounds like.

Might want to take a look at the Garmin NUVI 500, it's on sale at REI for $289.99. I'm thinking about picking up this one since its preloaded with US Topo but I think only the 1:100k scale one.

From what I've read lately it seems the "West" is more recent then the Parks one. It's really too bad the 750s doesn't provide shading like the Colorado or Oregon units. They look really nice. I think I'll be going with the "West" once I receive the 750.

Almost ANY GPS unit can do that (I think), if you make the trip ONCE first and save waypoints along the route.

I had a program called GPS Tuner that I used with a Pocket PC phone (HTC Atlas/T-Mobile Wing) and a Bluetooth GPS receiver.

This program came with a map editor that allowed you to save map images from the internet, and then calibrate them for use with the GPS program. You then loaded the map you wanted to use, and the GPS could use it as a trackable map.

I am looking for this same feature in a touch-screen GPS since I have sold my T-Mobile Wing. If you know of anything, let me know!

alright, i have a dilemma perhaps yall could help me with- my parents gave me a garmin 770 (i think, or 760) for my b-day/christmas gift, but i kinda had my heart set on a garmin 60csx. i don't do a lot of hiking where i would need a gps, but very much want one that will guide me around a bit in remote areas. i have read a bunch of posts, and i am starting to lean towards the 770. any reasons i should reconsider my reconsideration? i want a unit that will give good directions in the car first and foremost, and if the 60csx is not so good for that, well- any thoughts??

From my very limited experience with the 60csx and a Legend Hcx: If they are loaded with the City Navigator maps from Garmin they do very well at routing and auto rerouting from one place to another destination. The problem is they are both small, handheld devices. The screens are small, and if you are driving they really require a navigator to be running the GPS while you drive. If you are primarily using them on the road, I would recommend something with a larger screen, like the 770.

I just bought a oregon to replace my colorado (stay away from the colorado) and the oregon rocks!.

Nuvi GPS i beleive none have the track feature, something IMO important for offroad use.

The oregon will route you from A to B just like a Nuvi as long as you have the appropriate maps, "city navigator" for exemple.

BTW here are use topo maps free, that you can load in mapsource (mapsource is the software used by garmin)

Thanks for the Link, I'm looking at the NUVI 500 I think this is going to be about as close as I'm going to get without spending my next 10 paychecks. LOL It has some TOPO in it plus cities. When are they going to build one that is all Topo's right from the factory so those of us that need them only for offroading and not for finding the best places to eat or sleep or the best basket weaving store in them?

Your welcome icefisher. Being techno stupid I need the easest to work and that will do close to what I want and not cost tomuch. I think even spending $300.oo is tomuch but what's a guy to do?

If you are primarily going to be using it in you truck then I'd keep the Nuvi you have. I use a 660 for my truck navi and have a second one for hiking. The nuvi is awesome for vehicle navigation. I loaded the topo software on mine and when I go off the pavement just switch over to that mapping. My budding has the 60csx and uses it in his truck. It's nice but trust me the nuvi is way better for in car navi.

yeah, i pretty much decided after reading yours and a few others posts to go with the nuvi, it's a 765t seems to have a lot of the newer features such as the the 3d map viewing, seems pretty neat-o. since this is my first gps, i am sure i will find it more than adequate. thanks for everybody's help

Agreed. I use my Nuvi 760 for the same thing. Much bigger screen. Can route to fuel, food, etc. Can use Topo maps.

It's also much easier to enter coordinates using the touch screen than a rocker panel.
