Just ordered a Yaesu 2800

and a copy of the Arrl Ham Radio License Manual. Wasn't planning to start for a while, but I got a lead on a solid deal on the rig and figured now was as good a time as ever before the next outing up north!

Any tips on studying and learning the basics are welcome.

I attended a free weekend class that my local ham club had organized. The test followed and was much easier after the class.

Read the basics in the book then take as many of the free online tests as possible.
The question pool is open so you'll see most of the questions online, will find out your weak areas, and learn a bunch.
Then the written test will be a snap...

Dude, you'll dig the radio. I just used my 2800m for the first time tonight... worked flawlessly!

I just did several Practice Tests and read the book all about a week before I took the test and passed with flying colors. It's not that hard, really!

Good score on the radio.
