I have installed a brand new set of KYB Monmax right after I bough the Gen2.5 2 months ago and it is very stiff for on-road. I need some suggestion for a comfort on-road set up.
1)Some members suggested disconnet the front and rear sway bar, should I really do it or I should replace with another set of shocks?
2)Any torsion bar with lower spring rate available in the market?
3)How about changing the wheels with bigger tires? Will that extra rubber give a better ride on-road?
Thank you guys

Tell us more about your Montero. What tires are on there now? Factory springs or aftermarket. Any lift at all?

I would never recommend disconnecting the sway bar for the reason you have indicated. "Bigger tires" can mean taller as well as wider, but those dimensions alone don't take into account the construction of the carcass (i.e., load range rating).

We need more info.

Everything stock. The shocks is the only thing I have changed so far. I am planning to get some wheels and tires or tires alone because the stock tires are almost done.

Yeah, disconnecting the antisway bars for comfort? Not a good idea. for off road performance maybe.

Tires is one factor. If you want a more compliant ride then definitely try and retain the stock rim size. Bigger wheel's usually = harsher / sportier ride.

The KYB's (gas adjusts or monomax) are stiffer shocks the the OEM units (which BTW are probably KYB's also). We upgrade to aftermarket KYB's for superior off road control. IIRC the Monomax model is stiffer than the Gas Adjust model. KYB can confirm that in case you want to try the Gas Adjusts instead.

No lower spring rate torsion bars available. Most are trying to find a stiffer rate torsion bar if anything.

Bigger tires can certainly give a more supple ride but the tire construction (number of plies) and air pressure you run (safely) can also play a big role in the comfort level.
