Gen 2.5 - Window won't stay up!

My front passenger window won't stay up anymore. It's dropped all the way down into the door. Window motor still makes whirring noises like it want's to work, but I think the window's gone of the rails, or whatever. Is this is easy fix, or do I need a masters degree in rocket engineering to fix this one?

Also, can you re-apply the plastic inner liner once you peel off the gunk that adhere's it to the door frame?

Not too hard to do just take your time. I believe there are 3 bolts to undo the motor, 2-4 bolts for the regulator, and 2 bolts for the window to the regulator. Most likely you just need a new window regulator, but try opening up the door panel to see. If you can move the window freely, then most likely either the cable snapped or one of the plastic retainers just broke with age. It's much easier to change this way as the bolts holding the window to the regulator can be easier to access. When my rear regulator stopped working, it was stuck at the top position so I had to undo the regulator/motor and manipulate it low enough to undo the bolts. Before you put everything back together try seeing if the window moves up and down quickly. If it's a bit slow try loosening the bolts that hold the window to the regulator a little bit as it worked for me.

You can reapply the plastic liner as the gunk is usually still a bit tacky. Just be careful not to rip the plastic when pulling it off.

If all else fails you can get new linkage assemblies online for about 50-60, and just bolt the window up. Had to do this on two of my windows when I first got my 2.5.

You will need a new window motor mine did the same thing they just become weak over time and won't lift up the glass anymore. I bought mine from autozone with the track. Easy to replace and comes with limited lifetime warranty.

AutoZone, seriously? Must be a standardized part then. Cool, good to know.

So I need the whole assembly, probably?

A bit easier with the whole assembly and you get a new motor. Rockauto has some if you don't mind waiting a few days for shipping.

Yes you will need the whole assembly. If you have a spare car and can wait a few daysorder ship to home along with a couple of other mmiscellaneous items that you might need and you can save 20% or more and at times they even send you a gift card. I know autozone does not sound that great to everyone but I give it a try every now and then for parts like this. I also bought my shocks KYB monomax cheaper than every where else, plus discount, plus gift card, and a lifetime warranty from autozone which means if they blow up all I have to do is take mine off and take them to an autozone and either they give me some right away or they order them and I don't pay a dime.

As said above you'll need the whole assembly, not a tough job to do, but it is a fiddle, some suction cups to hold up the glass in the right position is a good help.

Also if you find that your windows are gone slow, a spray of silicone oil in the felts up the runners on the window frame help a lot
