Genesis trailer -- for ideas

American Sport Trailer Co. has a new design for a small trailer called Genesis. The Genesis model is not designed for off-road use, but it does have a couple of interesting ideas that could be useful to expedition use

The Genesis model is a small fiberglass trailer which, at first glance, looks a lot like other lightweight models.

The new idea is in the way the galley is outside, across the entire rear of the trailer.

The rear of the trailer lifts up to form a fiberglass awning above the galley.

Looking at the floorplan, you see the side entry, wet bath, and convertible sofa bed inside the trailer, and the kitchen with sink and Engel-style refrigerator outside.

Interesting concept.

Two issues...

One if the kitchen is outside and it's raining or cold...cook is cold.

Two, why not put the shower outside and include some sort of platform or standing pad to shower on?

Or...what about a platform that has a sink mounted to it. A handheld faucet/showerhead could rinse the sink area or be a showerhead. Store the platform/sink in a closet and sink area becomes shower area. Just trying to multi-task.

You mean like a teardrop trailer ? .........

....its very ...how do you say ....square ?

teardrop

Dang! It looks like the teardrop trailers had the outside kitchen as a standard part of their design since the 1930's. Nothing new under the sun! And the Campa USA and Adventure Trailer models have pretty complete outside kitchens (minus the sink).

The Genesis model is large enough to have a wet bath inside, something missing from the teardrop trailers I've seen.

Those T@B trailers are pretty cool. Mike and Tammi from Phoenix have one to pull behind their LJ. Cozy inside, and pretty good basecamp. :)

16 Years on ExPo. Whoa!!
Carrie & I have been getting into the idea of Tear Drops and other trailers for some time...

Photos / info on most manufacturers...

http://www.burrotrailers.com/ (out of business but big cult following)

There are a few others but these are them off the top of my head. I wanted a tear drop, she wants something she can stand and change in. We do not want a bathroom in it I don't think, though a hot shower might be nice, I dunno... But this can be rigged several different ways...

This is a Burro 13ft. As long as it is wide enough or has the right bedding for me (6'5 - 77" long :) ) then I am a happy camper... This or a 14' would be perfect I think...

We found a couple dream ones that look killer.. I've been working hard at building up the resumes and increasing the value of my web sites and would hopefully love to do some tradeout at somepoint if I could talk one of these manufacturers. I notice 8 of 10 seems to have incredibly crappy web sites :)

I go for walks just about every day to get a break from the office, and have been walking past a Casita that's very similar to that Burro.

Poor thing hasn't moved in at least four years (that's how long I've been seeing it, anyway).

It's right next to a M101 trailer that hasn't moved, either.

They're both University of Texas property, and I've been hoping that they would show up at the UT auctions, but no luck yet.

I have a friend in Georgia who bought a Casita early last year to pull behind his Isuzu Trooper. He loves it. He and his wife are rather big people and I thought it would not last. But boy was I wrong. They have over 10,000 miles on it to date and plan to put at least that much or more on it this year.

Having had a lot of trailers over the years, several small and several large, I prefer to have the shower and bathroom inside. You can always cook outside under the awning, with some outdoor carpet (it adds to the ambiance), which was usually the case with my small trailers. In fact my last one I converted the kitchen to hang on the outside wall so we could cook outside. It became the meeting place in the camp ground when ever I was whipping up some gormet meals. Somehow, we always seemed to draw out the other campers who were all walking around eating cold hot dogs and such, while we were setting under the awning around a fold out table, with a bottle of wine listening to some nice jazz tunes, candels burning, waiting for the Shish Ka Bobs to cook up. Shrimp included!

On rainy days I'd just whipped up something in the portable microwave indoors.:suning:

As for having an inside shower, that's something a woman likes the best. A way to get some privacy while she cleans off the days dirt and gets ready for a nice relaxing evening after a hard day of hiking or biking (aka sweating). Plus, I prefer to climb under the covers after toweling off.

I sure miss my Jayco Pop Up. It was the best! I beefed up the suspension and tires and drug it almost everywhere. Stupid me, I sold it to my cousin and he never used it.
