German 98 Blazer build

Funny how the grass is always greener... here in the states a lot of us pay premiums to drive the rusty Rover and old G-wagen hulks you see lying in neglected in people's driveways over there... and here you are tooling around in a dime-a-dozen Blazer that most of us wouldn't look twice at.

Very cool build.

I assume that's a Euro-spec Blazer? Are they common? Maybe used as fleet vehicles by companies?

What kind of motor is in it?

Hi,
yes that sounds fun, but I`ve never had a german car. Besides of a bmw that I beat the hell out of it...

Blazers are very uncommon here, I`ve seen less than a hand full... That`s because gas is really expensive here, sometimes around 1,80$/l. It has the 4,3l Vortec V6... And yes, it`s EU-spec...

Hi,
after 4 weeks I returned home today...

Those are a few pics from when I drove up to the house in december. The blazer did really well in the snow. No pics of the harder parts of the trail, whe were busy with driving there:

Then I was around 4 weeks there, including skiing, snowshoeing, etc...

And from today. All the snow`s gone:

The way back:

When I drove on the highway I looked in the mirror and it looked like my car is on fire. There was white skome everything. I just thought: "Time for a headgasket job"...:icon_emm:
Luckily there was a exit ahead, so I took it and stopped the car. I added coolant and tried it. Luckily it worked. No idea what was wrong...
10miles further my car started vibrating and ratteling badly, so I put the emergency flasher on and stopped. I saw one of my tires broken. I put on my spare and continued driving...
At home I saw that the tire is broken inside so it`s bigger in diameter at one point. Because of that it rubbed and destroyed my rear flare, those where the vibrations I noticed...

Here you can see it a bit:

But, it was a great trip... :icon_beerchug:

Looks like you had a good time. 4 weeks off work, that must be nice. :wings: Too bad about the tire, at least you had a matching spare. Are you going to get some warranty on the tire? Keep up the good work.

Oh, more pics when you get time. If you have more.

First off Stein, I would like to say that you have some incredible pics posted. I wish I was with you on that skiing adventure. Looks like loads of fun. Secondly, it seems weird that your tire had problems so soon, taken into account that they are new. I hope your supplier will replace them for free. Thank you for keeping the forum cool with all your nice pics! Cheers!:wings:

Hi,
here are two more pics:

Project snorkel was started today:

This will be the upper part:

Not sure how height it`ll be...

The upper part will be like in the picture, the lower will be a flexible hose with a fibreglas cover...

Here is a good tip Stein, turn the snorkel inlet tube backwards so you do not get any debris into the intake. I also have to say that you have the best pics so far on the forum. I just wish I could get some mountain time in with you. How far is it from Copenhagen to were you live?:smiley_drive:

Hi,
there will be a water separator similar like the one in the safari snorkels. So there won`t be any chance for water to get in the intake...

Copenhagen is about 1000km from me, another 200km to the austrian mountains... :smiley_drive:
Would be great if we could meet up, I`ve lot`s of free time this year... :victory:

I`ll start with the form for the fibreglas cover tomorrow...

Great thread! I don't know how I missed it the first time around, but I am glad to read it from the start.

I see that your home is near Ulm - What a lovely area! My wife visited there in 2006 and really loved Ulm and the whole surrounding area. We have friends also who were married in the big cathedral there! :)

Since my Astro van is going to have a lot of Blazer parts in it (NV233 or NP231, etc.) and already has some parts in common with the Blazer, I will be watching closely to see how yours does!

Cheers.

Hi Herbie,
thanks for your kind words... I also like your van and follow the build...

This shows another time how small the world is. Didn`t know that Ulm is known as a town in germany, because it`s not really big...
Btw, I was in San Diego two years ago and I really liked it. :costumed-smiley-007

Also continued with the snorkel:

First I covered the car with foil and put everything where it`s supposed to be:

img_00756zlg.jpg

Then I covered it with PU foam:

When the foam has dried I`ll cut the rought form out of it and put fibreglas on...

Next update this afternoon...
