Get a brand new Lada Niva and go see the world!

A friend of mine bought a Lada/Fiat shop in Calgary. I'm not sure if he can still bring them in or not but he is always in touch with the factory for parts and support.

There is currently a pickup version for sale in Edmonton. You don't see many of these.

I seriously considered buying a brand new Niva Cossack back in '96. They were $10k "loaded", including a spare tire mounted in the engine compartment! I ended up buying a new GMC Sonoma 2wd ($15k) instead. I sometimes think I would have had more fun in a Niva, but I probably wouldn't have driven it for 12 years, 200,000 km and sold it for $5k like the Sonoma.

:Wow1: Whoa... That's a 2009!!!!!!!!!!!!! That's AWESOME. it still LOOKS like the much older ones, but I LOVE that they left well enough alone and kept a neat car just the way it was... I've ALWAYS loved the vids I've seen of these little brute's tackling some fairly nasty tracks... That is SO COOL. I love seeing that many lever's/sticks in a little car like that.

Do they have anything like an LSD or even a Locker made for them???

Cheers

Dave

Wow, this post brought back fond memories of my 84 Niva. I purchased it used in 1990 (I was in the market for a 4WD overlander) built a rack, bumpers, transfercase skid plate and a 50mm lift for it. I went everywhere with it.

What's the 2nd or I guess 3rd stick for?

That's right, there are 3 sticks altogether. The second is to shift from hi-gear to lo-gear. The third will lock the differential. In a Niva it's all manual and all mechanical. There are no buttons or automatic differential locks etc.

Hello
I am a Newbie here on this site, and enjoying the posts. My kind of site.
My brother in law had a Niva in Colombia back in the '80s, not sure if he still has it. Earlier than that our family had a Aro Carpati from Romania, I think it was a '68, my Dad bought it new. It was like a tractor, I learned to drive with it, it was geared so low I think you could have plowed the back 40 acres. We used it and abused it for years on our farm. Brings back lots of memories.
Thanks:)
