Weather is warming up and im excited!
Ready for five windows down and the sunroof open! Getting stuck and not freezing to death getting,,, well,,, unstuck.
Starting out, I love my 4runner. Im a toyota tech. My wife left me with no vehicle and I happened upon my runner. I run it through its paces and fix it as it breaks. Money is an issue so I do what I can to make things happen cheap.
Bought my runner with 267k on the odometer. $800. 300 in parts for damages from lbj failure. And its been on the road since
Alternator - from sloreilley's, starter contacts, spark plugs, and a fuel pump layin around the shop. Sitting at 330k and ticking.
Lifted it poor man style. Friend gave me some billstein shocks with some insane springs. Way to large for the shocks. Used my
factory front coils and roughly 3" of lift on the front.
Before this my dad borrowed the truck and used it for construction. The rear sag was an issue so spent 110 on some rear air shocks
And coil spring spacers. Loaded truck sat level.
I didnt keep quite the load he did so when I lifted the front I just put another 80psi in the shocks and bam! Level truck.
Maybe a bit unsafe around corners but WOW the articulation when the sway bar is still connected.
I got the bug and bought some wheels and tires. 255/80/16 bfg mud terrains. $600
Picked up a set of ome 892 rear coils and now I can load it down $100 ( thanks again SoAz !!!)
Had a reciever hitch style cargo rack given to me. WHAT A SCORE! I put an old suburban bench seat on it and could sit on it at the camp fire. Worked on a friends truck and I was given a toolbox for a silverado. A cutoff wheel, $8 in u-bolts and $20 on trailer lights for it and I have a full size toolbox with taillights and blinkers hanging off the hitch and I can still open the hatch!
I picked up a double reciever attachment and can keep the box on and pull a trailer!
A friend gave me some hid ballasts so I spent $20 installing some hid bulbs
$20 walmart fog lights that are complete crap butvdef worth twenty bucks
Lift and mileage took their toll on the power steering rack and i started having steering problems. Left inner cv boot split. Today, 9 months later I replaced the p/s rack. $200 and i have The boot is still split. Found out my p/s pump is shot as well.
Just gotta be patient and it will all come together.
Mods im hoping for before summer...
Cutting and installing the hd springs that are too long for the struts (so the frontbend can support more weight)
Welding a reciever hitch in place of the lower radiator support (should have it monday)
Attaining another recievervrack to install two van style captain's chairs on for fishing.
Figuring out how to put a roof rack on for cheap as they are really expensive.
Spray on bedliner for my fender flares and running boards.
Just wanted to introduce myself, and share the toyota love.
They call me PoorRunner.... lol
