We bought 100 feet of this stuff:

We figure we've got enough to do three rows wide...

Good Choice.

To increase the weather resistance (notice I don't say water proofing) place 2 strip on the box and 1 on the door so they interlock when the door is closed. When going across the top try to slope the strips down from the center down to each corner so water drains to each side.

You may want to add a flashing with a reverse flange along the top to prevent water from wrapping the edge and keep it from dripping inside when the door is open.

The door recesses into the back of the box, so the weatherstripping will not be exposed to the weather directly.

Since it's a vehicle, it will almost always be sloping to one side or the other, giving any water that does find it's way in there, a path to run off instead of just sitting on top of the weatherstripping.

With three rows of this stuff, and most of the weatherstripping having at least three of five sealing lips in contact with the drawbridge, any water will have to get past about nine sealing lips to get into our box.

As MTVR says the door is recessed , but if it wansnt , having a strip on the door would provide extra proofing correct but it would get destroid pretty quick due to loading moto bikes ect up and down the ramp would possably become a trip hazard for people that dont pick up their feet and would probably get in the way of daily use etc.

Truck slopes to the front also.

9 sealing edges when it is new...I've installed / replaced 100'ft of the same stripping.

There's a neg pressure / vacuum created on the back wall when a vehicle travels down the road.

Good thought......didn't think of the moto bike loading.

Good point(s).

We have done the best that we can do, in an area that neither one of us is particularly gifted in- we will see how it all works out...

The drawbridge is mounted!

I tested it afterwards by sitting on it in a folding chair and having a beer.

That was a big step for us. We were thankful that it worked correctly on the first try.

We still have a little work to do on it, to include installing the weatherstripping, but we ran it up and down about ten times, and it works perfectly... :)20201108_142315.jpg

So, ..., how did you keep your chair on the drawbridge? ...

I'm glad it worked correctly on the first try, because, anything else would have been a terrible letdown.

Perhaps you should stencil "FRONT TOWARD ENEMY" on the drawbridge, just to confuse and/or worry tailgaters. ... Yeah, yeah, backblast, but pretend it doesn't exist, just like many movies do. :)

Another step closer to being able to travel in it!

We figured something like this:

 ... But, your machinegun-hatch/sunroof is on your cab in front of your tall camper.

 ... Are you going to install machinegun ports you can use while in your Jacuzzi and taking cover behind your custom gun-safe? That would explain your choice in stenciled signs.

Heck, stencil both warnings on the drawbridge. Your truck is big enough for them! :)

It is getting harder and harder to get anything done outside, because of the weather. It's been raining and/or below freezing, and is going to continue doing that. A lot of the things that we're using (paint, urethane, epoxy, silicone) won't set up in those conditions.

Today is the only day before we move that is predicted to be dry. It's not going to be above freezing until about 0900, today's high will be about 40 or so, and sunset is before 5:00 pm.

I hope you get everything ready for your move.

Best of luck with the weather! :)

Don't forget wicking effects. Wicking doesn't care about the door being recessed. Therefore driving in rain will be a problem if the seal is not angled down towards the corners.
