Gobi Stealth or Rhino Rack Backbone

Again, the Rhino Rack Pioneer Tray with Backbone Mounting System allows removal of the Hard Top as normal. The Backbone System now makes this possible. So you can take the Rhino Rack product off the Neuter list : )

How is this possible?

It looks drilled into the hard top. I have the gobi, but just wanted to know how the rhino system worked.
With the Gobi I can retract the rack and pull the top down. No sunrider mode though.

Super intrigued by the Rhino Rack system. Do you have a recommendation for dealer/installer in the Portland, OR area? I'm looking for a rack that can accommodate an RTT, would this be able to handle the static load? I've been considering a Frontrunner rack which I know is strong enough.

Contact John Bender. He should have these in stock ready for immediate installation.

The Rhino Rack Pioneer Tray with Backbone Mounting System is a much better design than the Front Runner.

Thanks for the contact info. Concerning the RTT question, have you had any experience with using one with the Rhino system? It wasn't clear to me based on their website if this is something they support or suggest.

IF it were me I would not use a RTT with the Rhino System. Its using the hard top for support. Great for gear, and lighter large items like sleeping bags, clothing, and normal tents. But a RTT is a heavy piece to put on top of the roof.

With the Rhino Rack, you can easily remove the T-Tops and complete rear section of the top just like you would when removing the top with no rack at all. Watch this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lSoeXJbYz6s&feature=youtu.be

Yes, you can remove the hard top... but you lose the rack until you put the hard top back on. So that would leave the user one of two options: Go without a rack during the summer months or remove the soft top and reinstall the hard top every time they want to be able to use it. The Rhino Rack is no different than the MBRB other than it looks different on the outside. I'm sure its a great rack and works great if you remove and reinstall your hardtop on a whim.

Removing the rack, then the hard top, then re-installing the rack seems quite the chore. Frankly I wouldn't expose the interior of my new JK to all that dirt.

That said, the AEV Rack for JK offers the functionality you speak of. Rhino Rack actually makes the unit for AEV. It is the Pioneer Tray but with AEV's mounting system that utilizes the Roll Bar as the mounting base. Because of this the AEV by far offers the most payload capacity and versatility over any rack out there while providing the elegance and aerodynamic advantages of the Rhino Rack Pioneer Tray system and its accessory line-up.

OK here's the actual weight rating specification direct from Rhino Rack Engineers,

"the Backbone System on a Jeep JK with our Pioneer Tray will take on OVER 500 pounds of static weight. When on the trail driving the system can handle and is rated at 289 pounds.

RRUSA"

This rating will easily handle any RTT on the market including a large awning and additional accessories no problem.

Let me know if you have any questions.
