I elected to wait until tonight to shoot the moon. I did get this shot last night...

Taken with a D300 w/ a Tokina 12-24 f4 lens
Settings: 12mm, 25 sec. @ f/6.3 ISO200

I like it.

I don't get moon photography in the context of this "super" moon.

Whatever increase in size, you can easily make up that difference by using a lens with longer FL.. or using a camera with higher resolution, or cropping the image tighter....

Don't get it... :coffee:

Or shoot with the moon lower on the horizon, or drive to the east coast to shoot the moon (sorry had to add that).

P.S. A camera with higher resolution won't make the moon bigger.

It does... Compare a 10mp image of the moon at 400mm FOV to a 22mp image at the same FOV.. You can crop the 22mp image and end up with a larger image of the moon with more detail, effectively enlarging the moon.

The pixel count will not change the size, although the cropping will.

Yes higher pixel allows tighter cropping = larger size.

Higher pixels will not change the size of the moon relative to something else in the same frame. This part is obvious.

We were down in Tombstone with the girlfriends family. I wasn't allowed to go shot till after dinner so the moon was a bit higher then I wanted but got 1 good shot out of it. This is the raw version, pre-post.

I agree. :coffee:

Honestly, wondering how many more chopped moon pics are online now because people will believe the "SUPER" Moon was really 'that' big....

But, I do like the shots here and the info! Thanks for sharing.

Here's an "unchopped" version. The one I posted earlier was probably around 20% cropped.

You'll want the fastest shutter speed available to you. The moon and earth are in motion, after all.

LOL, you're kidding I assume?

ah yes!

I was only thinking of long exposure at night.. with that much moon, it basically brightens up the entire sky.

You actually shoot the moon using a fast shutter speed. 1/250 sec would not be uncommon. I've been able to take pics of the moon from a moving car. Of course using a tripod is preferred simply because a decent 300mm lens gets heavy in your hands.
